I tried Priceline.com for the first time and got this hotel. I was hoping for the Hyatt. Anyway, can anyone tell me about the Holiday Inn Select at MCO?

What did you bid and when is your stay, if I may ask?
I tried priceline.com for the first time last night and bid was rejected - still trying to learn how to bid well and any tips will be appreciated!

I received this hotel through Priceline for our upcoming trip. We will be staying there January 30th prior to our Magic cruise. I will let you know when I get back. In the meantime, I had been keeping an eye out for feedback and saw this review on the Orlando Hotel section of the board:
Holiday Inn Select Review

As for using Priceline, I use biddingfortravel.com to get an idea of what winning bids are coming up for a particular area. I received the Holiday Inn Select at $39. I had been bidding for a few weeks in October starting at around $27 and raising $2 to $3 per free re-bid. Bidding for travel explains well what a free re-bid is. In a nutshell, it's adding a zone that's highest quality level is lower than what you are bidding for. For example, I was bidding for 3* at MCO. After the first bid was rejected, I added Kissimmee zone since the highest hotel in that zone is 2*. Priceline cannot give you a hotel for lower than the quality level that you are bidding. There are other Orlando zones that the highest quality level is 2-1/2 or lower. You must view each zone individually on priceline for your date, prior to bidding, to determine the quality level in each zone. I hope this helps.

By the way, last September, I received the Renaissance MCO for $28. So there is a range on what is accepted. I think lower bids are accepted as it gets closer to your date. I got that one only 3 weeks before the trip. Whereas for our upcoming trip, I was bidding in October and wanted to get it settled.

Good luck!!

Kim - thank you for that explanation. As a "newbie" to priceline, and hearing about it on this forum, I was curious! I appreciate the information GREATLY!!!!

I have quite a while to go before the trip so I can hold out for a bit!! (Or at least I think so!)

You aren't an "ebay" expert also are you????

:rotfl: Not an ebay expert, yet. That's why I keep practicing ;)

Rae, one more tip that they recommend on biddingfortravel is if you are going to wait until close to your trip to bid, then ahead of time, you might want to make a reservation at a hotel that can be cancelled -- to have as a back-up. I wasn't patient enough to do that and just wanted to get it settled and was satisfied with paying $39. They really promote not bidding too high, too early (it's never too early to bid, but they say don't bid too high). At any rate, if you want to wait until it gets really close and get the rock bottom rate, it might give you piece of mind to have a back-up.

Good luck, I hope it works for you -- keep us posted!

I stayed here last February via Priceline. I think I bid about $35. Its a very nice hotel. It was busy with airline people. Clean. Quiet. An excellent deal for the price you got it for. I think this one has Denny's across the street and a Wendys down a bit further. There were other restaurants across the intersection, but I don't remember what they were.

Kim - good point! And thanks for those hints - I'll keep practicing for both.

Good to know HI Select is good also - just in case!
