I must admit, this was the first time I have stayed off site since I have been going to WDW (not counting when I was a child with the folks). On a last minute trip, (made air and hotel res. on Wednesday, for a last friday's arrival, the only thing at WDW was a villa at the beach club. Since I did not feel up to 400+ a night, i went somewhere else, intercontinental hotels(holiday inn). I thought it would be a good idea to try out the "kids suite" type rooms. Well, most of these were gone, but, there were some available at the hotel named above. So, I booked without really looking into the hotel, but thought, its a holiday inn, so can't be that bad, etc. Wrong. Big Mistake.

Our adventure began at checkin which was ok, no problems etc. The ticket/concierge then cornered us, which was a bit of a pain at the start, but ended up being ok, as the kids got a stuffed spongebob and we got a pass to eat at Planet Hollywood, and he promised no wait. Guess what, there was only about a 15 minute wait, on a friday night. Everything was looking pretty good about now.

After walking around DD, legoland, etc. we went back to the hotel, and started to pull the bedspeads back on the kids beds. And our problems started. The beds are built into the walls, and as such, all of the walls around the beds seemed to have a dirty look to them. Like shoes had been run over them one to many times, and the wooden corners seemed to have that cacked on dirt that you find in corners that aren't really looked at for a while. Mindful, this is the bed, anyway, then, the top sheets were not on the bed. They were folded in a square, and placed under the bed cover. So, we started to put the sheets on, found a toothbrush between the wall and the mattress of one of the beds. So, we called for housekeeping to come and remake that bed with clean sheets, and then bring some blankets, since none were provided. The guy who came brought sheets, no blankets, and said they don't have blankets for the kids beds. On the phone with the manager, she brings some more bed covers, and says we should just use the covers. we said we would prefer a blanket, since the cover is usually on top of the bed, and we did not know when it was last washed, etc. Well, she then brought clean covers and said thats all they have. We asked for a double blanket to use, but that fell on deaf ears.

The manager said she would take off 30% of the stay due to the problems. (how you can miss a toothbrush between the wall and the bed, if you change sheets after the last guest I don't know. The bed was right up against the wall, and to put a sheet on, you would necessarily have to see the toothbrush) The 30% never came.

So, we think all is ok. Well, we have the ac on that night (outside door--old style ac in the wall type unit) and the thing goes into vibrations during the night, unless you give a good kick, which stops the clicking for a while, but then it comes back. I eventually found that if I placed the chair up against it, and kept the chair tight, the vibrating clicking did not happen, which made sleep a loy easier on Sat and Sun.

So, Saturday am comes around, we go to AK, and come back. The kids are ready for bed, we pull the covers back for them, and the sheets are folded again. Someone actually took the time to undue the top covers, fold them, and then replace the cover. By this time DW is furious, and calls housekeeping to come and put the sheets back on the bed. The housekeeper arrives, and when asked to put the sheets on, she looks like we asked her to perform surgery, and she says, how. So, DW blows a gasket, and rightly says she has never had to make the beds in a hotel before. Manager comes up again, I guess housekeeper told her, and manager asks what problem is. We tell her about the maid who did not (I guess it was facial expression as much as the spoken word) want to/know how?? to put the sheets on the bed, and we asked that the beds not be touched tomorrow. Manager says ok.

We get a good night sleep, with my chair in place against the a/c, and head to MK on Sunday. We come back on sunday, and, look into the kids suite, and find, the beds made. So, we look under the cover, and, see the sheets still in place, but, where are the stuffed animals of the kids? So, we look around, and still can't find one of them. maybe we brought it to the car, put it in the luggage, how aboput the dirty clothes. Maybe the dog just walked away when we were gone? Maybe the maid thought it was real and called the pound. I don't know, but, I was to tired of fighting with the hotel to go through something again with them. Thankfully, it was a small dog, which he had just gotten, and probably won't miss much, as he picked up a dinosaur and a stitch at the park.

I must overwhelmingly not recommend this hotel.

oh I am so sorry - I though this Holiday Inn was okay - so sorry you had such a bad stay!!!

a maid not understanding how to make up a bed....

Oh that is bad.

did the maids speak english?

make sure you complaint to the site you made the reservation from -they might be able to do something for you.

also I would write a note to AAA and ask how this can be a 3 stars hotels in their tourguide (at WDW - all the value and moderate resorts are 3 stars, plus OKW, AKL, WL and the POLYN).

So I would expect a much better hotel than what you descripted.

I did talk to priority club, just so they know.

It looked like, at least at night, the on call staff was eastern european, besides mgmt, that is.

I think this is the Holiday Inn that we stayed at 4 years ago when we went to Orlando. We were there 2 nights before heading to Shades of Green. We didn't have any problems with the hotel. Is this the one just outside Disney behind a bunch of toursist traps? (tacky souvenir shops?)

there are 2 holiday inns right there, one with what looks like an all you can eat place, and this one, which is about a block off 192, on black lake (????) road. two buildings, outside doors, pool in between, bar in lobby, arcade off main lobby.

Many years ago before we started staying onsite we use to stay at Holiday Inn Maingate West. It was a very nice place but as I mentioned this was at least 15 years or so ago. I kind of hate to hear this. We have such fond memories of this place when the kids were real small. They had a magician in the show room and picked my wife as his assistant. The kids loved it. Oh how times change...smjj

this holiday Inn did not exist 15 years - this one use to be called black lake.

It only be around since the 90's.

the other one is much, much older - but I just don't think you would have this problem

It is now called Holiday Inn Nikki Bird Resort. this was Holiday Inn Maingate West - but the one she stayed at is closer to WDW than the older ones - so I guess that is why the name was changed???

Friends just stayed at the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird Resort. The room was a dump. They won't be staying there again. Pools and hot tub were unheated. Clanging ice machine outside the door, couldn't open the door with the chairs at the table. Also very long wait for the restaurant.

okay just mark the holiday inn in Kissimmee off the list of places to stay.

this is horrible - Holiday Inn use to be a great place to stay in Kissimmee. :confused3

Deniss99ss--Please don't completely write off staying offsite due to this one experience! There are many many lovely offsite resorts that would far outweigh this hotel.

What an awful experience. Ugh.
