Hi! Mousesavers has great rate on this hotel
Traveling with daughter and grandkids 3&8yrs.
Will not be renting car so wondering whats in walking distance..shuttles..inexpensive dining nearby

Supermarkets..how high taxi would be..

Greatly appreciate any advice! Thank- you in advance! :)

The resort has just gone under a huge renovation and you can trust Mary at Mousesavers. She has very few preferred hotels and she would not give them her thumbs up easily. If you read the Trip Advisor you will see that most of the recents posts were positive, given the renovation you really can't go back too far with those.

That said it is on a busy road and I would be extremely careful about walking, and even more crossing the street. Carry or hold hands very tightly. To grocery take a cab to the Publix Lake Buena Vista on Vineland Ave. Do not go to the CrossRoads grocery even though a little closer, the prices are gauged for tourists. There are some drug stores with food items in walking distance, fast food and sit down dining.

Here is a taxi fare estimator http://www.mearstransportation.com/taxi-services/taxi-fare-estimator/

From Holiday Inn to Publix it looked to be about $8 but you might want to verify that. You could also have groceries delivered to your hotel, like from Garden Grocer.

Thanks so much for great advice! Going back and forth between on/off property stay. The 3yr old is a screamer and whiner so not sure I want to spend too much until she grows out of it! :)

Just my two cents:

If the 3 year old whines, please make sure you bring a stroller!!! I took one (double at first, then single comfy one) till my youngest was 7. Even after that, we ended up renting one for a day. It is a lot of walking!

I would feel very comfortable walking from that hotel to Downtown Disney or to Crossroads - there are sidewalks with crosswalks, and so many people do it. Crossroads has some cheap eats places (like McDonald's - we've driven through that one several times in a pinch, yuck to me but what the heck).

I also agree - do not do grocery shopping at Gooding's (at the Crossroads shopping center). If you are flying, how are you getting from the airport? You can book a towncar with a quick grocery stop. When I've done that I usually stop at Target for groceries (once we did Gooding's - yuck they carry almost nothing and it's way overpriced). Or save the trouble and do Garden Grocer - good advice from the previous poster.

For more privacy, if you like the Downtown Disney hotels, the Doubletree is all suites. Just a thought - one could have the sofa sleeper.

I do think without a car and off site, any of the DTD hotels are good for frequent bus transportation.

She is not talking about the Holiday Inn at DTD. She is talking about the one on 535 south of I-4 across from Chickfila.

Thank you for reply and advice! Sorry I took so long to reply..just found this and didn't realize there was another post. Anyway we ended up going to CR for two nights and than transferred to AoA. Spending our last night here!

What is CR?

Thank you for correcting me. I thought it was the DTD one (which looks nice now with the renovation).

The Holiday Inn at DTD was badly damaged 6 years ago by a hurricane and under went a huge remodel.

I stayed at this hotel in July, I didn't have any major problems with it. There's a Walgreens across the road (and you can cross at traffic lights so it's safe) and I bought breakfast and snacks there. The room had a mini-fridge and a microwave. I was on the ground floor which I didn't particularly like, because I was near the pool and it was very loud at night. I didn't want to say anything though because they let me check in at 9am, and I was just happy to be able to get into the room before heading to the parks. The room was nice and clean, I can't think of anything I didn't like in there. The buses weren't that great, they only run a few in the morning to the parks and then a few back in the evening. I think there was only one heading back from MK and it was very packed. It stops at a couple other hotels too.

I booked through Hotwire and paid $66 per night I think, and they waived the resort fee when I checked in. I would happily stay there again, especially at that price.
