My two daughters and I stayed at the HI in Downtown Disney from April 16 to April 18, 2004. I got the room for under $30/night through Priceline.com and it was stated that it was a 3 1/2 star hotel.
I can't complain much about anything given the price that we paid. The room was ok. The beds could have used new mattresses and the bathroom needed an overhaul but again for the price it was ok. The best part was the pool area. My kids were like fishes in the pools when we weren't in Downtown Disney or in the Magic Kindgom.
The Good - There were two big pools, one kid pool and one jaccuzi. It was in the low 60's at night and the pools were heated quite nicely. There was a bar indoors that was open and you could bring the drinks outside and you got free popcorn. Although the room needed a bit of an overhaul the view from the balcony (6th floor tower room) was really nice at night...you could see the strobe lights from DD. We were very close to DD, though I wouldn't walk it. The front desk said it's an easy walk but trust me...you do so much walking at the parks and the parking is free at DD so take your car!!!
The Bad - I had requested early check in since we arrived there at 2:30pm. On the phone they said no problem but when we got there they said to come back at 4pm. Our room was ready at around 4:10pm so the hour and a half wait wasn't that great since were were tired from traveling. Priceline rates this hotel at 3 1/2 stars but I would bring that down to 2 stars due to the condition of the room. It was acceptable but not great.
