Disney Area Resort Applauds Spirit Airlines; Matches Sept. 11 Offer With Free Suites
ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 2002--In the spirit of the Sept. 11 free travel offer announced Tuesday by Spirit Airlines, a Walt Disney World area hotel, the Holiday Inn Family Suites Resort, said today it would match the plan by giving away hundreds of free suites that night, and challenged Travel Industry of America (TIA) members to do the same.
"I applaud Spirit Airlines and frankly wish we'd acted first, but we should all be doing everything we can to encourage Americans to travel and thank those who do," said Terry Whaples, managing partner of the 800-suite resort near Orlando. All of the resort's 550 uncommitted suites will be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis, Whaples added. Customers that have already booked travel on Sept. 11 will receive vouchers for a complimentary
one-night stay.
"From the moment the terrorist attacks brought tourism to its knees, my partners and I have been saying that we can't let the terrorists take away our freedom to travel, and while all of us will pause that day to remember, we must move on," said Whaples.
The resort will host morning observances to watch nationally-televised ceremonies from New York City, Washington, D.C., and elsewhere, and then sponsor a day-long Celebration of Travel Independence party.
"Here in Central Florida we are perhaps more aware of the importance of travel because so many of us make our living in the industry, but everywhere in America people should stand up and say `we are free to travel'," Whaples added. "There are 2,100 members of the Travel Industry Association and I challenge them all to find their own way to say `thank you for traveling' to the millions of Americans who have refused to give up this basic right."
In only its third year, Holiday Inn Family Suites Resort is already gaining recognition as the "next generation" of family travel, offering the world's first two-bedroom Kidsuites(TM) and unmatched amenities and value. The resort was named the 2001 "Best Overall Hotel
- North America" by 6 Continents Hotels' Priority Club Members Worldwide.
Resort features include a free all-you-can-eat hot breakfast buffet daily for every guest, the Kids Eat Free Program for children 12 and under, two courtyards featuring a zero-depth entry pool and lap pool, Locomotion, a 1,400-square foot game room and free scheduled transportation to all four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks.
To take advantage of this special offer, contact the resort directly at (800) 374-4935 and ask for the "Freedom to Travel" special. For more information about Holiday Inn Family Suites Resort, visit http://www.hifamilysuites.com.
