Not going on a cruise, but though maybe some of you cruisers knew....

Need some help
We are going to Orlando the end of Oct and will have a couple of days to spend at the beach. we went to Trasure Island last year and it was nice.
I am finding a good deal at the Holiday Inn Cocoa beach and was thinking about tring that and doing the space center.

I am afraid it is a good deal cause it is a dump??

can anyone tell me if cocoa beach is ok? We are not huge beach people(not sunbathers), but the kids liked looking for shells and playing in the sand last year. I know there will not be so many shells, but is it an ok beach/area anyhow??

We stayed at the Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn a few years ago. To answer your question, it bordered on being a dump at that time and, from what I've heard, it's not much better now.

We stayed there free because of a contest I had won. I wouldn't stay there again...even for free.

We stayed there a couple of years ago also and thought that it was nothing special either. I wouldn't stay there unless I got a really good rate.

FYI, (just for a short history lesson), the HI is a really oooooooooold hotel. It is about twice as big as when it first opened, having swallowed a Ramada Inn just to the south a few years ago.

My family stayed there for 2 weeks back IN 1962!!!! (But I was REALLY YOUNG at the time). We had just moved to Satellite Beach, & our house was not finished upon our arrival (stinkin' contractors!). It was also the place where the early Mercury/Gemini astronauts used to stay when in the area for training.

That being said, the last time I saw it (last month) it looked a bit "rough" around the edges. Too Bad. Some fond memories of the place (like my 1st lungfuls of salt water ;) )

OMG! I have reservations there the night before our cruise that can't be changed. Oh well, guess it's just for the one night. Does anybody have anything good to say about it?

We stayed at the HI Cocoa Beach last November before our cruise. We got an internet rate of $49 and ended up with a one-bedroom suite which was quite nice and very clean. Can't comment on much besides the suite - we weren't there long enough.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Cocoa Beach in 2001. It was recently updated then. They put in kid suite rooms, which were just great for us. The kids have their own area and we had ours.

I thought it was clean and simple. The dining room was very basic, we ate out while we stayed there.

It was easy to get to the beach, conv. stores nearby, the pool was good for families, etc.

I would stay there again. Oh, and if you go in the summer during turtle egg laying season, bring a flashlight!! When we were there in late June, we saw turtles at night!!

We stayed there about two weeks ago before our cruise and I thought it was fine. The two pools were great for kids. I think any hotel that is right on the beach gets a little rough on the edges quickly. We had a room with two double beds. All the furnishing appeared to be new.

We plan on staying there again in a few years when we do another cruise. Here is a link to their site. I think we paid $98 or so. Keep that price in mind that it was Memorial Day week-End.

It is funny to me how different people's experiences can be. I found the same thing on trip advisor- some people hated it and others said it was fine.

I am not looking for a resort, just a decent hotel on the beach with a few things to do nearby. We will only be there for a couple of days and one of those days will be at the Space center, so I think I will book it and see if something better shows up.

It is coming up as 55/50 for a regular room and 65 for the kids suite. I think we will go with the suite since there are 5 of us. I was thinking about trying Ron Jon, but my cheapness is getting the better of me, and we won't have that much time to enjoy the resort anyhow.

I found the same situation when I won a Holiday Inn in Gatlinburg on priceline. Trip advisor had some awful reviews and some not so bad. I thought it was fine.

I just hope there are not any cockroaches:eek:
