I can not believe it!!! due to fly out to D.L.P on the 25th and return on the 29th . The baggage handlers are announcing strikes on both days :scared:
How will I explain it to the little one if the flights are cancelled.
I will be watching the news like a hawk, we re flying from Birminghm Int, who re voting on action next week acording to the news
So far the news is hinting that flights will be cancelled alltogether, how do I find out if ours is one of them

That's terrible!

I hope they manage to come to a quick solution and solve the differences before strike action is neccessary.

I'd just keep checking the flight operators websites and start calling them a few days before to check if you haven't heard anything.

I suppose.. we could allways go on the eurostar if the worst comes to the worst. Do you have to book well in advance? or would I be ble to get tickets a few days beforehand?

Comes down to price, availability might not be a problem its just what it might cost last minute.

It's not the best preparation for your trip but this threat has happened before but was then called off on several occasions. I'd try to not let it prey on your mind too much until more definative action has been taken first. If you can do that of course, many time threats are just used to open negotiation, I hope this is just one of those occasions for you i do ::yes::

Yes I know, but can you put a price on a hearbroken 5 y.o :guilty:
and if they cancell the flights, there will be the cost of the entire holiday.
I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that it's all resolved without a strike

Travel insurance would cover the cost of the holiday, or they may cover an alternative transport cost, as this may work out cheaper for them.

Another option is a road trip if you have a car, its an easy run to Paris.

Agreed - if you were able to and the worst came to the worst, the Eurotunnel is almost always available to book and is fairly cheap (about £130 maybe, it can be less but it depends on time of day and year). It's about 3 - 4 hours from Calais to DLRP, plus however long it would take you to drive to Folkestone.

Many of the hotels are cheap around Folkestone if you wanted to split the driving over night.

I'd jump in the car and drive there instead if the worst came to the worst! It's so easy and would be far cheaper than a last minute Eurostar ticket

It would have to be eurostar, I do not travel well in cars, a trip to paris from here would finish me off. Well looking at the news Brimingham are voting on action today:sad1: so I'll just have to wait to see the outcome

Don't be too downhearte. Just because the baggage handlers go on strike doesn't mean that the plane will be cancelled - the news always overdramatises these things. It may just be that you may only be able to travel with hand luggage.

You may want to statrt thinking about packing your stuff into a smaller bag for each person including kids. Not ideal but would mean the holiday can still go ahead.

DH and I regularly go away for long weekends (4 days) and even in winter with extra layers, between the two of us we get all our stuff into one small rucksack. So even with kids and the extras they require you can probably pack the essentials into handluggage (don't forget all passengers including kids (but except babies) are allowed the hand luggage limit).

Plus - I'd second making sure you keep an eye on the airline/airport websites.

Well, it may be tht we will be O.K looking at lists of the airlines effected. We are flying with Air France, who do not seem to be on the lists.. keep your fingers crossed for us ;)

Sorry, possibly could have been taken the wrong way.

Fingers crossed for you
