Hi all

Some of you know we recently relocated from MA to DE. Our family is in MA, FL and CO so we are on our own for Thanksgiving. We love our new home and so far things are going very well. My DS and DBIL are visiting for the dd's birthdays and we are going to FL to be with DSIL and DBIL and family and hopefull DMIL and DFIL will join us.

That leaves Thanksgiving, first we decided to do a family TG - then DH decided to do something localish but not at home.

We booked the Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocoanos and it looks terrific. We will stay Wed - Sat and I am sure we will have a great time. I am planning to cook on Sunday so we will have the home cooked turkey and all the yummy leftovers.

Will we feel strange on Thursday having never eaten out on Thansgiving? Can anyone who has spent Thanksgiving on vacation give me some encouragment please?

TIA
TJ

DH has always wanted to go somewhere during Christmas. I was always reluctant to leave home on a holiday. But, both my parents passed away several years ago, so I told DH I would think about going away. Last summer we talked to our kids (DD/15, DS/8 and DD/7) about going to Gatlinburg for Christmas. They actually loved the idea. DD/7 only had to be sure that we would leave a note for Santa telling him where we were. So, we rented a cabin. We carried most of the presents with us, but Santa still delivered their big gifts to our home. DD's and I went up on Dec 23 to start preparing everything. DH and DS came up Christmas Eve after DH got off work. And, believe it or not, my sister, her husband and their daughter came up early Christmas morning. We had a wonderful day! We spent the day as if we were at home. Big breakfast, presents and I cooked almost everything that I would if we were at home. Later that afternoon all the girls went to check out what time the outlets in Pigeon Forge would open the next morning. We did a lot of shopping! But we also did some hiking, miniature golf, Nascar speedpark and I have some wonderful pics to remember our fun! We also saw a couple of Christmas shows and we all had a great time. The last night we were there, we picked up my niece and sister and went to look at Christmas lights. We had a blast!!!! My DH and niece were actually hanging out my sun rood taking pics as I drove through downtown Gatlinburg. They were talking with the people walking on the streets and generally acting like nuts! My DD/7 laughed so hard, she almost tinkled in her pj's. Yes, the kids had on their warm/footed pjs. It does feel different, not being at home! But we were all determined to make it a special time and we are all really glad we went!!!!
Oh yeah, the first day the girls and I were there it snowed. We drove to the top of the mountain and I have some really cool (literally) pics of the girls!
Just remember, as long as you are together, the Holiday will be special! Have fun and let us know how it goes!!!!! :wave2:

I went to Orlando for Thanksgiving and had blast. We has so much fun that out for our Thanksgiving meal and went to the parks that evening.

I also have for the July 4th and Labor Day weekends to that it's becoming a tradtion for me and mom.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I am looking forward to a holiday away but apprehensive as well. We spent Christmas week at WDW last year with family and it was a blast but we didn't leave until the 26th. We had Christmas at home with my sister and BIL and MIL & FIL. Then we spent the week and New Years with BIL and SIL and two dn's. It was the best of both worlds.

DH wants to go to FL (Clearwater Beach) for Christmas and Hanakkah (we celebrate both) and spend it with his family this year. If Thanksgiving goes well and we can figure out the Santa issue we may go ahead and do it.
