Holiday and other help needed!!

My MIL told me yesterday that she had some "points or something" from her Disney Visa card that she didn't know what to do with - 700 of them! And they expire in December 2010! So I told her I would see about planning a trip to DL to "help" her spend them!

We are thinking about going next year to see the park in it's Christmas attire, but I have a few questions first....

1) When do they start putting up the decorations for Christmas and doing the special parades and fireworks?

2) What other special things do they do during the holidays?

3) MIL has trouble walking and was thinking of renting a scooter/ECV thing. Do they rent those at the park, or do you have to go thru a separate company?

4) Do you have any hotel recommendations? I thought about staying onsite since she has trouble walking, but I couldn't believe how much it was for 3 nights at Paradise Pier with tickets - almost $2000!!

I'm counting on my friends at the Dis to help me out on this one!! TIA!!

The holiday season starts the Friday/Saturday before Thanksgiving. HM and IASW will have special Holiday overlays. There is a holiday parade and a holiday tour is available for additional $. There are also special yummies only available at Christmas.
There are electric scooters to rent at DL. But we got DMIL a scooter from Deckerts and they delivered it to the hotel. She had it for the ride to and from the park and all day long. If you get her a scooter, look into the info about the handicap entrances for all rides. DMIL did not use it until the last day of our trip as her knees finally gave out after 4 days in the park.
If you want to save money and be close to the park, there are several hotels that are "Good Neighbor" hotels that are cheaper and actually closer than PP and even DLH. Best Western Park Place, Tropicanna in are the closest. HOJO is a Dis favorite but about a half mile from the entrance. They have a great Entertainment Book rate if it is available for your dates.

Do you remember approximately how much it was to rent the scooter? Just trying to get a ballpark for planning purposes!
