Holding points

Hi DVC Members

I have 77 points in a holding account and they will expire the end of March 2015. I want to book a reservation for my daughter in early March 2015. I can't book with holding points until two months prior to check in. My question is if I book her stay with points that are not in the holding account now can I later switch the reservation to the holding points. Hope that makes sense.

No, at least you are not supposed to be able to. Member Services will not swap out holding points on an existing reservation unless there is still availability.

You can't.

Unless the room is otherwise available at two months out. If so, you can book it "again" with the holding points, and then cancel your other reservation. But if that is at the end of your UY, any points freed up in this maneuver would still expire at the end of your UY as you would be past the banking window.

My advice is to simply wait and see what is available sixty days out. They may have to deal with a split stay, but it is likely at that time of year that you will be able to get something to use the points up, as long as you are ultimately flexible.

We have dealt with holding points exactly like this a couple of times.

All it takes is availability and flexibility. We have never wasted a single point in 5 years.
