Holding Points v. Waitlist

I can't remember what rule is applicable here. Let's say I have a waitlist for a studio at 100 points. I have a confirmed 1 BR for the same period at 200 points. If the waitlist comes through at 30 days or greater and the studio replaces (of course) the 1 BR, do the 100 points go into a holding account? I would assume at 31 they, of course; would not. But what if the WL is fulfilled at the 30 day mark?

Let's take it a step further. What if I put my waitlist at the 7 day mark and it was fulfilled and replaced during the 30-7 day period? I know if I modify it by hand, the points likely go into holding, but what about waitlists?

Do you mean "within 30 days?" If so, yes they do. It's one of the reasons you can set the waitlist to expire at that point.

Points for any res change within 30 days that reduces the number of points needed for the reservation, the excess go to holding.

Any changes to a reservation 30 days or less, including by waitlist, will result in holding points. This would even include the reallocation of points freed up from a different trip that was canceled beyond the 31 day mark.

For example, if I canceled a trip for October now with banked points and wanted to now use those banked points for my June trip which is booked with current UY points, I can not switch them because I am within 31 days of my June trip.

Some people think it is only when you cancel. It is any change to the points being used!

Great information, Sandi. I don't think I ever knew that, or ever even really considered it.

Thanks for the answers, folks. That's what I thought. I was pretty sure that was right, but then I started overthinking things.

Thanks again.

I learned it the hard way...by doing it! Lol

I assume the proper thing to do here to avoid having points go into holding on a lower point waitlist would be to just cancel the waitlist prior to the 30 day mark?

You have the choice of two expiration date options for a wait list entry, 31 or 7 days prior to check in date. If the wait listed room would be using less points than one it would be replacing, a 31 day expiration would be best. If you are not replacing an existing reservation or the new one would use more points, the 7 day option would be okay.

Ah! Makes sense!! Thank you for that info.
