Okay I am sure this has been asked 100 times but could you please help me clarify. I have 75 points in holding. Can those be used for the non-DVC Disney Collection? I am betting no but thought I would ask in the hopes I am wrong.

I can't find your exact situation regarding Holding Points.

This is what I found:

14. Holding Account Vacation Points. If a confirmed reservation is canceled thirty (30) days or less before the arrival date, the Home Resort Vacation Points used to make that reservation are placed into a Holding Account. "Holding Account Vacation Points" are subject to the following restrictions:
1) Holding Account Vacation Points can only be used to book reservations within sixty (60) days of check in.
2) Holding Account Vacation Points must be used for reservations during their Use Year. Any Holding Account Vacation Points remaining in the Holding Account at the end of the Use Year will expire.
3) Holding Account Vacation Points cannot be Banked.
4) Holding Account Vacation Points used to reserve and stay during the last 60 days of a Use Year may be used for reservations at any DVC Resort.

Here's some more about the Disney Collection:

The Disney Collection
Please note:
Rule of Four applies (excluding Disneyland® Resort Hotels in California).
All reservations are subject to availability.
A non-refundable US$95 transaction fee applies per confirmed reservation (excluding Disneyland® Resort Hotels in California).
If payment of fees is not received at the time of confirmation, Disney Vacation Club reserves the right to cancel the reservation.
Some Reservation Points charts may not be available at the 11 or 24-month booking windows.
Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida
Book your vacation from 11 months to 2 days in advance.

Disneyland® Resort in California
Book your vacation from 11 months to 2 days in advance.

Disneyland® Paris
Book your vacation from 11 months to 14 days in advance.

Disney Cruise Line®
Book your vacation from 24 months to 14 days in advance

Hong Kong Disneyland® Resort
Book your vacation from 6 months to 14 days in advance.

Tokyo Disney Resort®
Book your vacation from 6 months to 14 days in advance.

Rule of Four - Prevents you from booking at any resorts that are not DVC resorts plus the Disneyland resorts in the last 4 months of your use year. You can still book the reservation before the last four months and take the vacation during that 4 month period. E.g. book your reservation five months before the end of your use year and take the vacation 3 months before the end of the UY. Note: You also have to make the holding account reservation within 60 days of your check in date.

Yes, you can use holding points to make a reservation for a non-DVC resort in the Disney Collection. But if you use holding points, you cannot make the reservation for the non-DVC resort more than 60 days in advance and you are still subject to the "Rule of 4". (Keep in mind that most of those non-DVC resort reservations will also require a $95 fee).

The "Rule of 4" says that if you want to stay at a non-DVC resort during the last four months of your use year, you must make the reservation no later than the end of the 8th month of your use year. So depending on your use year and when you want to travel, it's possible that you could NOT use holding points for a non-DVC WDW resort reservation.

For example, let's say that your use year is December and you want to stay at the GF in November. You could not use holding points for that reservation because the earliest you could make the reservation would be in September (60 days in advance). But the Rule of Four says you would have to make that reservation before the end of the 8th month of your use year, which would be July 31.

But if you wanted t stay at the GF in August using your holding points, no problem (assuming there is availability, of course). You could make the reservation in June (60 days prior), so the Rule of Four deadline (July 31) is not an issue.

It doesn't really cover your situation. Sorry.

Actually, I think #4 indirectly answers the question. It mentions that reservations within the last 60 days of the UY can be used for DVC resorts.

This indicates to me that as long as you will be traveling outside last 4 months of your UY, then holding points can be used for non-DVC.

OP, if you are already within the last 4 months of your UY, then no, you can't since the rule of 4 would apply.

If you are outside this, I think that you can.

Thanks for the replies. I will be in my last 4 months. In fact CarolMN nailed my plan exactly on the head. Oh well I guess I will just hope that OKW or SSR has something. Our worst case scenario is trying for Vero Beach in November. I know it will be cold but at least it is FL and the beach.

Shouldn't be too cold. During first half of November at VB usually ranges from well into 80s with lows in mid 70s.

As it becomes later into November it still is pleasantly warm but more into 70s but you can still get days into 80s. Evenings it can drop into below 70.

Have you considered Hilton Head Island ? but that will be cooler than VB but still mild temps ( especially compared to up here in northeast ).

Good luck & hope it all works out as you are hoping :goodvibes
