Holding Delta tickets? Here's what happens if they strike/close down.

I paid for my airfare for December on Delta.

They changed my flights. I have the new itinerary and the origianl e-tickets.... but the flights changed since I printed the origianl ones.

What should I do to print these new tickets with the new flight numbers?

The original receipt and the new itinerary are all you need.

Mary-THANK YOU!! I printed my reciepts and current itinerary. I tried to look at the .gov link you provided, and it was bogged down. I was wondering if anyone who paid with a credit card will get a refund?
Thanks again...I am off to put the paperwork in the safe. And hoping that Delta avoids a strike(it would be sad to see another airline go out of business).

From the article link:
If I paid for tickets by credit card, and the airline goes out of business, can I get my money back from the credit card company?
In the USA, yes, but only if you paid by credit (not debit) card, the airline ceases service, and you make a "chargeback" request in writing to the issuer of your credit card, no later than 60 days after the date that you received the first credit card billing statement that listed the charge for the tickets. If you buy tickets more than 60 days in advance, and the airline goes out of business more than 60 days after you got the bill for the tickets, it's too late to request a credit. This 60-day limitation is part of the same USA law that provides the right to a chargeback if you don't receive the goods or services, the Fair Credit Billing Act. It could be changed by Congress, but there has been no proposal in Congress to extend the 60-day chargeback request window.

I brought my tickets on 2/15/2006....now I am looking for my cc statement where they appeared on the bill I am hoping that it is late Feburary-So I have until late April....At least this might be a possibility for some...IF the worst happens-lets hope it won't!!!

Found my CC statement-it is dated March 2, 2006...so I am going to put that in a safe spot too! :grouphug:

I wouldn't worry about anything really happening until late May, at this point. I'm pretty sure that a cooling-off period will be ordered and enforced.

I bought my tix on my Citibank card so I emailed them last night. I bought them 2/23 and that billing cycle closed 2/27 so I think my 60 days would be up around end of April. Here is the response I got from them and my initial question to them:

Hello, On 2/23/06 I purchased 5 airline tickets on Delta with my Citibank card. These are for a trip in December. If the Delta pilots strike and the airline ceases operations can I be refunded since the goods/services I purchased were not delivered as agreed? I believe this would fall under the Fair Credit Billing Act. Can you confirm for me? I just want to be prepared in case the strike happens and the airline goes out of business. This is the first trip to Disney World for my kids and I need to come up with another plan if I can't fly Delta. Thank you, Allyson Bulger

Sounds like they didn't even read your message, but just sent you a boilerplate reply about disputes with vendors.

This is what I am afraid of...it will be past my 60 days to bring action with my CC company and I will be stuck trying to trade tickets for a high volume time 12/23-12/29(plus I have borrowed points on my DVC and my year use is FEB...).

I really hope there is no strike and that Delta stays in business-it would be a real shame for the #3 airline to fold, but if there is going to be a strike that will force a close of operations-lets get it over with. I really feel bad for the employees and their famlies, but I cannot afford to be out this money too. :grouphug:

April 18th is the set strike date.

April 18? Is this confirmed?

Not Really!

A few things have to happen

1. The contract must be thrown out by the court. IF the current contract is not voided no strike (Whole new set of issues will arise from this, but that's another thread)

2. Negoitaions must not deliver a new deal.... that may very well still happen

3. DL will be in court on 4/16 asking for an injunction. Based on court rulings in the past they have a VERY good shot at least a 30 day injunction to negoitate again and then we start ALL over!

Like you, I elected to purchase Disney travel insurance and am booked to fly on Delta April 28th. To quote my policy, it states under the heading TRIP CANCELLATION AND INTERRUPTION "This coverage does not cover loss caused by: (i) carrier-caused delays including an announced , organized, sanctioned labor union Strike that affects public transportation, unless the Insured's coverage effective date is prior to when a strike is forseeable. A Strike is forseeable on the date the labor union members vote to approve a Strike."

I just spoke with a travel insurance specialist who indicated that, since I paid booked and paid for my trip/airfare prior to the strike vote yesterday, any ramifications of a Delta strike would be covered. He assured me a travel specialist would find a comparable flight for April 28th should Delta be inoperable. I fervently want to believe the specialist with whom I spoke as this will be our first trip to Disney . . .

So then this means that we would call disneys travel insurance specialists and they would find a comparable flight? Thats intresting because when I called the disney insurance number this morning, I was told if the strike happens we would have to either purchase tickets on another airline and file a claim, or cancel the trip and get our money back that way for the flights.

But I just wanted t add:
Also I asked the delta rep for the reservation number so iI could pull up the itinerary at delta.com and keep an eye on it, he said I didn`t have one? and that I could speak with internet customer service about where to go on the website to find itinerarys ,I know where to go, but it asks for a 6 digits reseravtion number, so should I have one even I booked through disney or not?

Yes, you should call Disney and ask specifically for your reservation number, booking reference number, PNR code, whatever Delta calls their passengers' travel files.

What your Disney TA may have given you is a confirmation number that allows you access to your travel file with Disney...but not direct access to Delta's file.

Does that make sense?

You can also search for your reservation on Delta by using your Skymiles number and PIN, the credit card number used to pay for your ticket/last name combo, your e-ticket number/name combo.

You can find that page under the itineraries/check in tab, then other options.

HTH!

Good luck ...strikes and shut-downs are awful - for everyone.

CarolA I just want to wish you all the best :grouphug:

Thanks, but I don't work for Delta....

However, I did get teary reading all of this. My Grandfather started working at DL just after the crop dusting stage...... (I am dead serious, it started as a crop dusting company in the Miss. delta hence Delta) I am actually glad he has passed on, this would break his heart. Delta was his family and he loved that airline. (Of course the whole state of air travel today would break his heart, when I flew to see him I always wore a suit since "that's what you wear to travel" even in the late 90's) Thanks to his successful career at DL I had some wonderful opportunities....

It's funny you should mention that about flying in a suit CarolA...it took me until about 3 years ago to get past that mentality!!! My mom still flew in 'good clothes', maybe not a suit, but you sure wouldn't see her flying in jeans or shorts.
We can only hope that Delta, and the pilots, do the right thing. Of course, the right thing is relative I guess. The right think imho would be to stay in the air :teeth:

Subscribing - My family & I are scheduled to leave next Wednesday, April 12 & return on the 23rd of April. We are flying Delta. :sad2:

Not that I wouldn't LOVE to be stuck in WDW for a few extra days, but I just don't want to be stressing about this during my vacation!

I just called back to clarify and was also told I would need to file a claim for reimbursement if the worst were to happen. But, the rep made sure to highlight how he would be happy to "help" me re-book a flight . . . with a gargantuan price tag since I'll be re-booking with less than a few weeks notice, I'm sure!

I am booked with Expedia and the rep told me Delta would be 1 to issue any reimbursements but i would have to call Expedia and they would try to accomodate us with another flight like you said for a giant fee im sure
