Maybe some of you veterans can enlighten me a little.....I booked a week at my home resort in Septmber....the week after Labor Day.....My use year starts in December so I borrowed the points for this trip....we are considering now leaving onSaturday instead of Sunday....they said when I booked the reservation that if I cancel the reservation or any part of it and I borrowed to do it they would go into a holding account.....what exactly does that mean and how long do you have to use them if you can.....
Thanks for the info.....

You have till the end of your use year to use them, but you can only book with them 60 days in advance. Example- A few years ago, we had a trip scheduled for early May, and my father needed surgery during the period we were going to be away. I did not want to be away while my dad was having surgery, so our points went into a holding account. We rescheduled the trip for July 26th, so I had to wait until May 26th to book it.

The "Holding Account" only applies to reservations cancelled within 30 days. If you cancel 31 or more days before, the points are simply returned to the applicable Use Year and may be reused or banked- subject to normal deadlines.

In this case, if you have used borrowed points for the Sep reservation and your Use Year is December, you will have until November 30 (this year) to use any borrowed points, as they may not be banked or returned to their original Use Year.

If some of the points were from this Use Year (not borrowed) and you need to cancel a night, the points can be re-allocated to use the borrowed points first and you might be able to still bank the current points- subject to banking deadlines.

This is an example of the only time Use Year does come into play- since you have limited time to reuse any borrowed points before they expire.

Good Luck!
