We are doing another last min trip this week. Disney hotels are $240+ :scared1: (with the AP discount)
Hojos is $112 a nigh. I think that is with the AP discount. I know my girls would love it there but im not sure if it is worth $50 more a night (when i could do name your own price on priceline).

:confused3:confused3

There are some discounts available. There is a Disboards discount of 15%, I think, and a discount from another Disney board (not sure I'm allowed to mention it here) that is 20%.

As far as whether it is worth it, that depends on what you are looking for in a hotel.

Will the girls love and make great use of the pool? If you priceline a nice hotel, will you mind the shuttles or driving to the parking?

Myself, I would not take the Hojo for $112 because I find a lot of hotels to be better options.

We're paying full price in October (with the DIS board discount) but that's because the on-site hotels are 2-3 times more. I wanted a walkable distance hotel with comfortable beds, plus I am also hoping my 5 year old DD will play in the Castaway Cove when her younger sister is napping. Other walkable hotels fell off my radar when I saw Castaway Cove. I might have booked at Fairfield Inn based on reviews on DIS boards if I weren't bringing my girls, but the water play looks awesome at HoJo.

We are just going to priceline a hotel. We usually get a nice one for under $45 a night. :cloud9:

I was looking at Comfort Inn Maingate. Getaway today had a nice deal for a kis suite. But had too many mixed reviews of it.

So it will be priceline and maybe use the saved $$ for charter meal ;)

If you don't mind, would you please pm me the board that is 20%? I have found 15% on several but have only seen 20 for APs. Thanks!

Priceline won't guarantee more than 1 bed....that doesn't work with a family of 4. :)

OP try the Anaheim Plaza, see if they have any $60 rooms left. We won't pay $112 for the HoJo, at that price we'd be checking hotels like the CCI, with a free shuttle and free bfast. :)

Would I have stayed at hojos for that price? Not sure, I just got back from it and while it worked great for us and I was happy with the stay I only paid 76$/night. For anything over 100 I would probably want some sort of breakfast offered.

Try the Americas Best Value Inn on Katella... We paid $89 incl tax for a one bedroom suite with free in room wifi, free parking and breakfast and that was peak season (early August)... It is only a few minutes further to walk than CCI and Hojos, really nice pool and jacuzzi and as its only a 40 room place no crowds... If you don't want a suite you will pay less...

No. I like Hojos but I won't pay over around $80 a night. I'm used to getting the AP 50% off deals (until they changed their cancellation policy and messed it up for me and I don't want to hear from anyone the reasons why..I know why but I still don't like it) anyways...CCI is around $120 a night and I'd rather pay a few more dollars and stay there.

Weird...I posted a reply but it didn't show up...let's try this again!

We have stayed at HOJO's regularly since 2002. In or around 2007-2008 we were unable to secure a rate other than full price (we were blissfully unaware of 'insider' pricing such as msg boards, entertainment book, etc - or maybe they weren't available then?). At this time, from the comfort of our living room we made the decision that full price at HOJO wasn't "worth" it, and proceeded to book our stay for the CASTLE INN. :sad2::confused3:headache:

We quickly re-defined our expectations for "worth". :rotfl:

We live 1800 miles away, in Canada. Whether we drive or fly, our holidays to DL consume a large portion of our entertainment budget. For this reason, we have made the choice to enjoy our stay at a hotel where we know what we are getting. HOJO meets all of our needs: clean, quiet, close walk to DL, large rooms, spacious free parking, friendly staff, a choice of pools, etc.

We don't want to risk not getting maximum value for our holiday by trying to save a few bucks on the hotel. Because, really, a difference of, say $25 per night for 5 nights is only $125. This is a small percentage of our expenditure on the holiday. But the comfort of where we stay is of paramount importance when assessing enjoyment of our holiday.

Now, HOJO offers many opportunities for discount - CAA/AAA, AP, Entertainment Book, Msg board discount, etc. So we book whichever discount is available at the time and offers the best savings. :thumbsup2

We have stayed in all three building types - Pavillion (in building 5), Building 2 and Building 1 Park View. We have enjoyed all three, and book according to our needs (eg. just 2 of us we book a Pavillion, when our son comes along, we prefer Building 1 or 2). And I really LOVE the upper floor with the skylight!!

HOJO has become our 'home' when visiting DL!

I didn't mean this to sound 'fanboy':worship:

I want to mention you may want to change your thinking. The Castle Inn may of been the worst place to stay on Harbor. The Worst. Only in the past few months have I seen posts mentioning positive things about it.

So your comparison may of been an apple to a rotten orange.

I would certainly agree with this assessment....:rotfl2:

However, we did learn that we have found a place where we are happy and comfortable...no need to risk changing it up for just a few bucks...though I would really like to try the Grand Californian someday soon...;)

FWIW, HOJO's doesn't honor the CAA discount, or at least they didn't used to. I inquired about this for our trip in 2009, and was told that they didn't accept BCAA or other forms of the AAA discount but did offer a 10% discount. Found that they offered the DIS board members 15% off the rack rate and used that instead. Personally have stayed there 3 times in the past 2 years, and knowing what I do about the hotel, for full price I would rather use my BCAA discount and stay at the CCI, where for a little more there's a continental breakfast included with the price.

If you don't mind me butting in, what are the AP and Disboard discounts? How would I use them?

Anual passholder is 20% DIS is 15%. You can ask for them when booking. I'm not sure about the online codes without checking.

Ehh...I don't think it is worth FULL price, but probably worth it with the DISboard or AP discount. I really like it there, my kids love the pool, I have never had a problem there and the beds are comfy in every room. The most I have paid there is 30% off, most of the time I plan my trips with the AP rate since we are pretty flexible.

Anaheim Plaza sucks, I would not stay there unless the room was less than $40/night. I have also heard bad things about Castle Inn.

Castle Inn definitely sucks, I will never ever stay there again, even if new owners come in! I really had a bad stay there, and they didn't care at ALL! No one, not the front desk staff, not the manager, no one.

Anaheim Plaza does not suck at all, we stayed there and had a great stay. We would definitely stay there again, we wouldn't pay more than $60 a night for it tho. And it's not as nice as the HoJo, not at all, but it's clean, close, staff is great and the rooms are big. It's not a bad place to stay at all.

Castle Inn was not the worst place we ever encountered.....we did not notice any bugs in the beds! They had the weirdest bumpy floor there...couldn't figure it out. Very strange.

Worst hotel was in Minneapolis. Part way through the night (sitting on the edge of the bed in our clothes) we phoned the Holiday Inn Metrodome. When I requested a room for later that day, I was told 4pm check-in, $120/night. When I told the front desk lady where we were calling from she said "Honey you guys get here right away and we will make sure to have a room ready". Checked in around 6 am and they gave us a suite for our hotel stay at less than the cost of a standard - around $80. Awesome service, and very much appreciated at the time!! Hotel was a Best Western previously but had lost the right to use the BW name.....not sure how that works, but we had booked a BW and it was no longer a BW when we got there. Filthy doesn't even come close. And the drug dealers in the hallway were just bonus.

So we know bad, and Castle Inn was not in that category...but would definitely not stay there again just to save a few bucks.
