Is the Howard Johnsons plaza hotel a good hotel? If we got the "park view" room is it really a park view? does it have a balcony? Having a park view... is the noise level OK?

Is there another hotel that is RIGHT BY the entrance that would be better?
We are trying to decide if the PIN price we got for the DLH is worth the extra money--or could we stay cheaper at a "just-as-close" hotel.

Any advise would be helpful!!
Thanks!

yes yes yes
go to hojos it will be of the park view i was told all park vview rooms have park views. 79 a night (it might be 75) with the entertainment rate. much better then dlh view rooom price.

if you wanted cloaser but no view try desert inn i was staing there but changed to hojos with the ent rate and view room.

will be there in oct.

The only thing aboutthe entertainment rate is that it's not always available. So far, it's only available one day so far in August - on the 17th, it's not available at all during my upcoming trip in August. But, with that being said, even though I am not able to get the Ent Rate, I am still staying there! I originally had planned RIGHT across the street at Best Western Park Place Inn, but I decided to switch my reservation to Hojo's...

I haven't stayed there before, but the fun water park looks like a lot of fun!

That's a great rate you got!
Unfortunately I am booking through expedia (I don't have the Ent. book) and the rate I am getting for park view is $104/ nt. Which is still better than the $180 for the DLH in just a standard room.
I just want to make sure the HOJO is worth it!?!?!?:confused3

hojos is and you can get the book online if you wanted to get it but 104 isnt bad eathier if you alreayd have it planed.

desert inn was 100 a night but then again no view so i switched.

when are you going

Carousel Inn and Suite-dont stay there please dont (bad reviews in the past so bad not alowed tot alk about. just warning you what ive heard and seen)

if you want something besieds hojos check out camolot inn they were grate last year and room 404 my son slept falling alsleep to fireworks that he could see from his bed

The "Park View" rooms at HoJo are nice. The balconies are not huge but enough for two people (or three) to sit and a couple of kids to stand. The view is mostly of trees. You can see the Matterhorn and the tops of a couple of the buildings. You can not see down into the park. You do get and awesome view of the fireworks from the balcony though and can hear the train and some music from parades and such.
There are a couple og closer places that are finee but none of them have balaconies and they have exterior corridors if that is an issue.
The Best Western Park Place Inn, Tropicana Inn, Camelot Inn, Desrt Inn and Park Vue are all Closer than Hojo.

We stayed at the HoJo in Nov. 2005, before the new water park was added. We were very pleased for what we paid. All rooms are NOT park view, however. Ours wasn't. I would only expect it to be better with the new water area.

Here's a webcam from the hotel to get an idea of what you can see. But the rooms don't have as good a view as the webcam Im guessing.

We've stayed there a couple of times but It's kind of far. We ended up taking ART everyday. Like others have said, the motels near the crosswalk are much closer.

This was my park view from my balcony at HOJO's.

I put a chair on the balcony to put my make up on in the morning. It was quite and nice out there.

We stayed at HOJO in December with the entertainment rate in Building 2 over looking the garden pool area with a balcony. It was nice and quite. To see the fireworks we just had to step out into the hallway and there was a big window and we could see them all. This was a great hotel and they just keep making it better with now microwaves and the great new water park. We cant wait to get back there!

I know there have been some bad reviews lately of Carousel Inn, but my daughter and I stayed there a couple of years back and it was just fine. I think they're working through some employee/management problems right now, but they'll come around. It is a nice property, and it's just been updated, so they can't afford to continue on with bad publicity.

HoJo is hands down my favorite Disneyland area hotel (on or off-site). Really looking forward experiencing the new pirate water play area.

You'll hear a lot of positive comments about HoJo on these boards. Couple of reasons:

1. The entertainment book rate. They have a special where, with the Ent book card, you can get a standard room for $59 a night, and a deluxe room for $74 a night. (recently renovated, new mattresses, balcony, Disney view, microwave and fridge in room). The Entertainment rate is currently showing as available on these dates:
http://www.hojoanaheim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14 . Be advised that even if your dates aren't on there, frequently more dates are added last minute. For example, there were no dates in July, then about a dozen showed up on July 1st. Looks like a lot of them have already been snapped up. You do NOT need to have the book on hand when you book your stay. You just have to have it by the time you get there and check in; they will need your card. If your stay is after November 1, you will need the new 2009 book. You can get the book for your own area, doesn't have to be the Anaheim one; you just need the card. You can get a book for most places for $25. So consider: buy an Ent book and use it to book a standard room for $59 a night for 4 nights. That's a savings of $40-$60 PER NIGHT, when compared to what you'd pay for one of the hotels at the crosswalk, and at a nicer hotel. So you'd save $160-$240 just for buying a $25 book. I'd say that's worth it, even if you never use the book for anything else. When you call to book this rate, you must call the hotel itself and ask for IN HOUSE reservations (don't let them shuttle you to the national line; they won't know what you're talking about) and their in-house reservation people can help you with the Ent rate. Ask if Lorealle is available to talk to.

2. HoJo is the nicest hotel on the "strip" within close walking distance (it has inside corridors rather than the outside ones at the motels at the crosswalk) and it has a large "garden" pool, beautiful grounds, and a brand-new, pirate-themed, kids' water play area. If you click around on the above link, you can see pictures. It is well within easy walking distance. Granted it's not right AT the crosswalk; but the difference is a matter of 4 minutes' walk. Also, it's up at Manchester, so most people in the know cross Harbor at Manchester and walk down the quiet side of the street, away from the crowds, and enter at the taxi entrance. It saves you several minutes. Most people report a total walking time of 7 minutes from the HoJo parking lot to the turnstiles. This is closer than staying at one of the farther towers of the DLH or at Paradise Pier.

3. Lorealle. She's one of the managers at HoJo, and she's SO nice. If you have any questions, concerns, need help-- e-mail or call her at the hotel, she will behave toward you like an instant friend. She even joined the Ladies' Only DISboard group for dinner on their trip! Lorealle frequently posts here and answers questions on the DIS.

Hope that explains the DISboard HoJo obsession. ;)

By the way-- don't book through Expedia; book it yourself separately from your airfare and park tickets. You will most likely save a bunch of money.

Buy your park tickets through GetAwayToday online. It's another DISboards favorite place. They are the only travel agency authorized to give 2 magic mornings with their 3-day or more parkhopper tickets. (with every other travel agency you only get 1 MM) So if you will be there on 2 or more Magic Mornings (1-hour early entry into the parks, best time to hit the lines when they're low-- happens on Sunday, Tues, Thurs and Sat) it's so worth it get tickets from GAT. When you order the tickets online, use discount code "podcast". That will get you $10 off, which is the cost of their processing fee. The tickets will cost exactly the same as through Expedia, DL travel company, or any other legal ticket sales online.

Hope that helps!

If you end up booking separately like Gail suggests, make sure you ask for the Disboard 15% discount on your room at the HoJo. If you have or are planning on getting an AP, you can request the AP rate at 20% off.

I would also recommend checking to see if your travel dates are within the dates they offer the entertainment rate. It would be more than worth it to get a book if you can manage to get that rate (which is $79 for a premium view room).

You can check here to see if your dates are available:

We were on the 4th floor with a park view. Some of what you can see is nice, especially if you are there during fireworks (which we were not). Some of it was blocked by a tree for us as well. The room was quite nice and very large. However we found it very noisey though. From the street next to the hotel (buses coming and going all the time), to hearing the freeway noise. Not to mention being kept up all night on Grad night. There was also a lot of noise from inside the hallway from kids, echoed since it was enclosed.

So for that reason, and the fact that we like being right across the street, we plan on going back over to the Tropicana next time we stay offsite.
