HOJO Walk Times? Come In and Tell Me How Long It Took Please!

Hi Everybody,

I am figuring out what hotel is best next year for my family of 5 (3 kids ages 8 and under). I originally thought I'd be at the HOJO but I read some people's concerns on the walk times and started looking elsewhere. In a previous question I asked here about something else, I was told the walk time was much shorter from the HOJO and it sounded great.

So before I book the suite, could you tell me how long it took you? And did you have little kids or big kids with you? If you could tell me how many minutes and if you felt you were walking fast/slow or had cranky short walkers with you, that would be great.

Big Thanks in Advance!

Definitely less than 10 minutes. We cross Harbor at the light at Manchester and cut through the taxi area to avoid the crowds on the hotel side of Harbor and at that cross walk.

I travel with late teen/early 20 somethings who are sometimes worse than 5 and unders. So cranky, yes. Short, not really but they do move kind of slow. haha I also have a bad foot that keeps me from walking very fast at times.

We are heading to the kids suite on Thurs! We also stayed in a 2Q room in Sept. I would say 8 minutes, but it depends partially on how long you have to wait for the traffic lights. This was based on our sept trip with faster walking adults and one 5 yo in a stroller. I think the fastest would be 7 min and the longest would be 10 min? That's a guess tho...also depends on where you are staying exactly at HoJos...the kid suites are in the building that is kinda furthest from Harbor...plus you might have to wait for the elevator!

Its an easy walk and you're going to be walking so much anyways its no big deal.

I did a lot of research on suites and like HoJo the best. Park Vue Inn also has a suite but we stayed there in August and didn't care for it even though the walk was super short. The HoJo pool is awesome for kids- though- if you want to be at the Parks all day- it can also be an unwelcome distraction (my 5 yo only wanted to be at the pool....argh)

I agree with the roughly 8 minute assessment. That's me, DW, and our granddaughter, who is 8 now but was 6 when we started staying at HoJo. She has always walked with us, 4 times a day (2 RTs, including mid-day break), with no complaints.

I'm always amused at the messages from families who find the walk too long. I mean, if you're in an ECV, or are carrying a child (rather than pushing a stroller), I could see it. But for most family configurations, the walk is really easy.

We just did it a couple of weeks ago with my 60-something mother-in-law, my oldest daughter who is 8, and my youngest daughter who is 5. I would say on average it took us about 8-10 minutes to arrive at the baggage check. We found the walk to be very easy and we did not hear any complaints from the little (or big) kids. I also highly recommend the kids suite and the pool at the HoJo. We had a great time!

it took us approximately 8 - 10 mins with an 8 & 6 year old and I must admit there was no complaints from the kids in relation to the walk.

It took us between 8 and 13 minutes depending on the light on Manchester and Harbor. No young kids in my group. Always seemed a longer walk back at night. Are you a single parent managing three kids under 8? Understand that Harbor, which you must cross is six lanes of traffic and that the side walk has no separation from traffic for about a third of the walk to the park. If this is a concern , look at the Candy Cane Inn. Although the walk is about the same distance, you do not have to cross Harbor, there is better separation from traffic and the Inn has a dedicated shuttle. Pink Budgie has a thread about the CCI that has pictures.

We were just there with kids ages 8, 5, 3, and 2. The walk was fun and short in the mornings, but we did get grumbles on the way back in the afternoon and at night. I'm chalking it up to a psychological thing on the kids part - they never complained in the park or on the way to the park. So I'm guessing most of the grumbling stemmed from 1) knowing they were on their way to nap or 2) knowing they were on their way to bed and/or 3) moving away from Disney rather than toward it.

We had a stroller for the littlest ones and they traded out or we carried them. The stroller came in handy in the park for carrying extra diapers, jackets, etc.

Everyone had tired feet in the evening, but the kids miraculously found enough energy to go play on the slides. And we grown-ups were loving the hot tub for tired feet and muscles!

Time to and from was probably anywhere from 7-10 minutes. We made a round trip twice a day because we came back for naps.

Also -- if you're jamming, you can get there quick. I think we may have broken 5 minutes when we were trying to get to WOC on time!

HTH! Have a great trip!

We were there last week w/and 8 and 5 year old. I agree w/the 8 minute average. My kids didn't complain at all, and we spent all day everyday in the parks. If your kids are used to walking places where you live (we walk a lot in our neighborhood/town), then I think that helps. The fact that the kids pool area is open until 9pm is nice, too!

We love HoJo ~ with 3 kids under 8 I'd bring a double or 2 single strollers - DD hasn't strolled outside of Disney since she was 2 but even last November *7 and a 1/2* she strolled a bit - mostly in the evenings.

I know it must have been something like 8 minutes - according to pretty much everyone else's time - but it felt like 2 minutes to us. We were there last week (me, DH & DD8) and had no trouble walking to DLR and back - DH had a total knee replacement a year and half ago and still has many pain issues and he thought the HoJo was super close to DLR.

I think it did not feel long at all since you can see DLR is "right there!". I know it is hard to visualize just by looking at a map - I had a hard time when planning our trip - but it was closer than I thought and would stay there again (as opposed to a hotel closer to DLR) unless I can get a better rate somewhere closer.

love the Hojo, the walk is shorter than the walk to the tram, the wait to get on it and the walk to your car in Mickey and friends lot. Yes it seems long going back but that because no body wants to leave ! I have stayed there many times alone with my sons and never have felt unsafe.

My then 7 and 5 yr olds did the walk just fine. In fact, they ran back and forth since DH and I were walking slower than they were. They didn't complain or grumble at all. When we went back to HoJo during the day for a break they knew that they could have a rest and then swim, so it was incentive for them.

We love a lot of things about HoJo: the beds, the inside corridors with locking outer doors (after 10 pm), the pool and the Pirate play area, having a fridge and a microwave, and the size of the rooms and how short the walk is. We find our stays there very pleasant and our kids think it should be the only hotel we stay at when we're in Anaheim!

I do agree with the PP who said the walk from HoJo is shorter and less aggravating than parking in M&F, hiking to the elevator or escalator, waiting for the tram and walking through security on that side of the esplanade.
