I've currently got the $69 rate for Hojo booked but I saw someone mention a $78 rate for RI Maingate so it got me thinking...... maybe we should cancel the Hojo (which we've stayed at many times) and try out RI Maingate.:confused3

Is the walk any closer from RI?

I see they have a cont. breakfast, is that worth the few extra bucks?

What about rooms? Are they any bigger, better, etc?

The walk from Hojo hasn't been too bad in the past but I would love :lovestruc a closer walk.

We like Park Vue Inn but it has priced us out at $123/night.

Thanks for the advice!

I've stayed in both.

You get more bang for your buck at Hojo's. The rooms and pools are nicer and it's not that much more expensive than the Ramada. But it is a further a walk, maybe 5-8 minutes.

The one thing both hotels have in common? Excellent customer service. So you can't go wrong in either place.

We stayed at Ramada last year. The breakfast is nothing fancy (danishes, muffins, some fresh fruit...cereal & toast, etc.) but it kept us going until lunch time so it was helpful in budgeting for one less meal a day.

The pool area was nice, with a large shallow area which was great for my younger, non-swimming daughter. And they've recently revamped it.

The short walk was nice, although towards the end of our trip, with tired sore feet and carrying a sacked out 5 year old, it still seemed soooooooo long!

Either way you go I think you'll be happy and have a great trip!

I have stayed at both places. I think we have stayed at the Ramada at least 30 to 50 times and only a couple of times at HOJO. The HOJO rooms are nicer and more up todate. The Ramada has a great pool and that is why we have stayed there so much from when my kids were young to my grandkids now. It is very shallow for little ones at one end of the pool. The difference between pools is that at the Ramada you can have your young one and older kids at the same pool. At HOJO the kids pools will not accomodate older kids however they have the splash area. Ramada is closer to walk and you don't have to walk so far to get to your rooms. You can't go wrong with either place.

I like them both too. Ramada is closer and you do get breakfast, even if it is minimal.

However, HoJo's is so close to Mimi's which is really, really good!

I will tell you that I never swam at HoJo's, but I love Ramada's pool. It is great for all ages.

Good luck deciding...honestly you can't make a bad choice, both are good solid places to stay.

We haven't stayed at Hojo's, but we just got back from the Ramada. The pool was fabulous. The breakfast is not worth it. There was cereal and donuts and hard boiled eggs, of which I can only eat cereal and there weren't good choices. I felt the hotel was a little run down, but they do have excellent customer service. They put us in a room that could not accommodate my ECV, even though I had called and asked for a room that could. The lady at 11:00 at night told us there was nothing. So, I went in in the morning to complain and the manager upgraded our room, got us on the ground floor, and even went so far to cut our bill in half and refund us money! I didn't need it, but it made me feel happier toward the hotel!

My brother and I stayed at the Ramada and ended up moving to HoJo after one night. I thought that the room we had at the Ramada felt kind of run down. The bathroom was small and didn't seem particularly clean, and the air conditioning didn't work very well. My brother got bitten by something while he was sleeping. Obviously, neither of us was impressed. On the other hand, the staff was very accommodating when we chose to leave early.

The HoJo, on the other hand, was quite nice. It feels like a real hotel (as opposed to the Ramada, which is really a motel). The rooms were clean. bright, well-maintained, and large. Getting to the parks requires more walking than the Ramada. My brother and I are both in pretty good shape, though, so this wasn't really a concern.

We didn't use the pools at either hotel, but the pool at HoJo seemed like it would be more fun.

For the money, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Howard Johnson's again.

Good point about the Hojo! It is a hotel and not a motel. I do love the inner cooridors.

I don't know where I saw the $78 for the Ramada but its certainly not on their website so I think we'll keep our ressie for Hojos. A little walking won't kill us. We've done it many times before as I know we've stayed there at least 3 or 4 times now.

Thanks for the responses.

Ramada USED to have those prices; and if they still do, it's just for a select few rooms during a specific time period. I've not seen rooms there for under $110 in about 4 years.

We stayed at the Ramada last summer for 9 nights and only paid $89 per night in a Premium room. The discounts are out there, if you are their friend on Facebook they post specials all the time.

We had not issues with bugs, or the bathrooms not being cleaned. Housekeeping was fantastic.

As stated previously, both choices are good ones. I would stay at whichever is cheapest. And looks like that is what OP is going to do.

Have a terrific trip.

Another vote for the Hojo!! We stayed at both a few weeks ago. 1 night at Ramada and 6 at Hojo's. I planned it that way since I wanted to add a night at the beginning of our trip, but Hojo didn't have anymore kids suites. Since I wanted to try Ramada, I figured we'd stay there. I agree about the motel/hotel feel. We had a premium room at Ramada and it was small. There are 5 of us however. The pool was great at Ramada tho. The breakfast was very minimal.

And yes, we a had a kidsuite at Hojo's with an ent. book discount, but we have stayed at Hojo's before and in a double queen room. It seemed larger and just more sunny and nice. We didn't neccessarily like that the splash area and pool were seperate, but we worked it out and the kids had a ball. Loved the indoor corridor, whole hotel feel better. Would not hesitate to stay at Hojo again!

The walk is only a few min. longer and we personally didn't mind it at all.
