I thought I'd come to where I KNOW I can get everything I wanted, and more, about HoJo's :worship:

My family is going to Disneyland in one week (10/5-10/10) and originally had a room booked at Fairfield Inn. On a whim I decided to check HoJo's to see what they had available... and viola, they had an NQQ2 room (are all NQQ2 rooms in Bldg 2?) available WITH the entertainment rate (added an extra day because of that)!

This will be our first time staying at HoJo's. What can we expect? Should I request a specific room/floor/location? How far of a walk is it from Bldg 2 to Disneyland? Will we need ART passes? How is the pool and "pirate cove"... are they very busy throughout the day/night?

I'd LOVE to hear about any advice, tips, experiences, feedback, etc!

Thanks :thumbsup2

Just dont get building 1 the freeway noise is bad on the freeway side.
You can walk it like a 8 min walk not to bad.
Never tried the pool but it looked fun we spend most all our time in the park.

All NQQ2 rooms are in Building 2.

The walk is very doable with the ages of your kids.

I've read a few complaints lately that the pool is on the chilly side, but Lorealle, (manager who posts here) said it is heated to 80 degrees. Maybe they'll have turned it up a few degrees by then?? ;)

I would request a room # of 19 of higher, which puts you on the end of the building closest to Harbor and away from the freeway wall. I have never experienced noise in these rooms. Also, not all rooms in this building have balconies. So if you want one (they are very small), you need to request that as well.

Have a great time staying at my favorite off-site hotel. :)

We stayed in NQQ2 last May. We had a ground floor room facing the adult pool. It was very quiet and comfortable! The walk over only took us about 5 minutes, we crossed at Manchester and walked along the Disneyland side and cut through the bus drop-off area. It might take a little longer if you have to wait for the light to change.

It was just DH and I and we were in the park until midnight, so we didn't use the pools, but the kids' area was empty the days we were there.

NQQ2 rooms are our favorite. We had room 2319 the last time we went as a family in May. It is a corner room and was VERY spacious. We fit a rollaway bed in there very comfortably and didn't feel like we were tripping over it all the time. The only drawback for that specific *19* numbered rooms is that they don't seem to have a table and chairs. We missed that because we eat breakfast in our room. I am sure we could have called and asked someone about it - but we just didn't take the time.

I second DM about asking for 19 or higher - when DH and I went in July we had 2202 or something like that and it was almost the last room on the hallway and we noticed the freeway a lot more - when we left the room we could see the freeway out the windows as we walked along the hall. We didn't hear the freeway noise in our room - just noticed it more in that part of the hall.

The balconies are very tiny. We never use ours if we have it. Doesn't seem big enough to sit on and we always seem to be getting ready to leave the room - not sit around and hang out on the balcony. My kids would rather swim or be at Disneyland.

The play area is fun. My DS 5 doesn't like the bucket dump - but will spend his time in the little teeny baby pool. The sun warms that one and it feels really nice. My other boys like the Pirate area and use the slides and water cannon regularly, no matter how cold it is. We were there in Dec. last year and they still swam and were in the Pirate area. :confused3 And it only got up to about 70 ish degrees. Not very warm at all.

I will 2nd or 3rd lol the vote for a #19 or higher room. :thumbsup2 the walk down that hall in building 2 can be long and tiring from the elevator. The building is huge! :scared1: and yes you can see the freeway out the corridor windows but I couldn't hear a thing. It appears very well insulated. :) it's not the end of the world if you end up in a below #19 room just a little sweeter to get in your room 20 paces earlier :cool1:
I have never used ART from hojo. It's a very easy walk from building 2. Just walk out through the parking lot onto Manchester :)
enjoy your trip we will be there on the 6th! In building 2! Lol :goodvibes

Hey we are in HOJOs from the 4th to the 11!

What does NQQ2 stand for? I am NQQ1 premium Disney view....

The codes can be confusing for sure! They were set up a long time ago when there was smoking allowed in the hotel. Let me break it down for you.

NQQ1 (the "N" always stands for non-smoking, "QQ" stands for 2 queens, and the "1" stands for Building 1)

So NQQ2 means non-smoking, double queen in building 2.

Hope that helps.

I'm not sure how it works with the entertainment rate, but we always upgrade to a park view room (except twice we had the pool view), and it is very inexpensive, and I think I spent more time on the balcony this trip, watching the kids play in Castaway cove, what a hoot. This way there is never any freeway noise, and the view is enjoyable.

FYI- We stayed in building 1 and we were NEVER bothered by the freeway noise.

What can you expect? A GREAT TRIP!!! You are going to have a great time. You will get great service and a nice, clean room.

The pirates cove is great, it had kids whenever it was open while we were there but it wasn't crazy busy.

You can get passes for ART or you can walk. We had little ones with us and decided the walk was too much for them so after the 1st day we ended up getting passes for ART, never had to wait more than about 15 for a bus. And HOJO is the last stop on the way to DL, but also the last stop on the way back to HOJO. For us, it was worth it.

We stayed in an NQQ1 (premium Disney view) and loved it. You can certainly hear the freeway when you're out on the balcony, but the room was very well insulated and it didn't bother us at all on the inside. I booked far ahead (yay for the Entertainment rate!) and asked for top floor, with a view that was minimally blocked by the big ponderosa pine trees. For future reference for anybody who wants a GREAT NQQ1 view room, ask for 1713!

Top floor has no little feet pounding around overhead... and the top floor has skylights which make the room seem very light and airy. If you'd like to see what our view looked like, there's a picture and a video from my trip report last year, linked in my signature below. I think it's on page 5.

We liked to take the elevator down to floor 1, turn left and go out the side door which was right next to Manchester, jaywalk across Manchester (very little traffic) and cross Harbor at the light. It keeps you out of the crowds and cuts a couple of minutes off your walking time.

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread but I have a question about the cofee makers. I know that they are the nice Kureg (sp?) brand, but is there any way to get just hot water? It seems like they don't do that and the kids like hot chocolate (we bring our own).

Ok so if your kids are like mine, they will want to play in the kids pool area all the time!! Mine seemed like they were upset that they HAD to go to the park! :-) Walk wasn't bad at all, at least i didn't think so(DW didn't agree after a long day with 4 DD's in tow). I would caution against a top floor room. The skylights tended to wake EVEYONE up WAYY to early and they were tired later in the day. McDs and quizno's are a short walk for meal options!

Sorry too for hijacking the thread...I have a "standard" room booked via the disney website (good neighbor package or whatnot). Besides trying to avoid Building 1, anything else I should know?? I'll be solo (female) so would also like to err on the side of safety. Thank you! :goodvibes

Okay, so based on all the recommendations... I called and added the special request of a room ending in #19, or higher. We'll be checking in somewhere between 6-8pm...... what are the chances that my request will actually be fulfilled???

I hate to say it, but the requests are only requests. They will give out the rooms on a first come first served basis. So if you're checking in at night, the chances are not great that you will get your request fulfilled unless they are slow. Anyway, that's what I was told when I called before and put in requests. I usually check in at night too so tend to have the same issues. In the past though, they have offered to move us the next day if something opened up, but we chose to stay put because we didn't want to deal with the hassle of moving.

As DSF said, requests are always just that, and they can't guarantee that they can fulfill your requests. However, if you call ahead with your request, they will try to accomodate you when they "block out" the rooms, usually a few days or a week or so ahead. Jennifer told me that the earlier you call, the more strongly your request is considered. Therefore, when I called in May to make reservations for a room in October, I was the first one in line for a special request, and I got exactly what I wanted... an NQQ1 7th floor with a relatively unblocked view. It was perfect!

Since you're only a short time out, there are no guarantees, but I know they will do their best for you. Good luck! :goodvibes

The skylights KILLED me and woke me up at the crack of dawn litterally!!!:headache: The view is cool but you're not even there for that long because you're down in the park anyway.. but I would stay away from the freeway.
The rooms were very clean the service was awsome. They upgraded us to the Disney view for a very small amount of money..The pool was really cool the kids LOVED the water park..it is a GREAT hotel!! But when my girls a little older we will go back! :thumbsup2
