When i was doing my work for finding a hotel a couple of years back the Holiday Inn was a well rated hotel with a big mother of a pool. It's location is top end of I drive so the position for Universal/Islands and Wet n Wild cant be beaten and all the neon I drive can throw at you is only a stroll from the hotel. I would check out trip advisor for some of the latest views although that is with a health warning, people are far more likely to complain at a bad stay than a good stay! Take more notice of the Brit review posting as they are more in the same frame of mind as you about what you expect from the place.. I find some of the American reviews overly harsh and almost outrageous when most visitors ennjoyed their stay literally days either side.

It all depends on what you want/expect from a hotel and your thoughts on I-Drive itself.

I think it’s a standard US Inn type hotel. It was clean so that’s the main thing for us. We just want a place to lay our heads and store our goods. We are not a lay-by-the-pool family, but we did spend more time doing that last year as the poor is nice and the kids loved it. TV, two double beds and a bathroom. All what we want. The restaurant was something we only tried once. It was fine, but we mostly ate on I-Drive after a day out. The only reason we are not going back there, is we want to try a different location or stay at Disney for a change. As said, we stayed there twice.

Location wise, the hotel is PERFECT. US/IoA are within walking distance (well, a pretty long walk, but doable!) Wet N Wild is almost across the road, there are TONNES of places to eat along I-Drive. Shopping malls and other attractions like Ripleys are very close. Disney is about 20 minute drive away. They offer free transportation to SeaWorld and US/IoA. I am not sure it if they still offer it for Disney or now charge a small fee $2 or something. But if you are driving, it’s a moot point!

A lot of people think I-Drive a little "worn" looking with tacky souvenir shops. That is pretty accurate in some ways I suppose, but the place feels very safe. A bit too many Brits around at times, so watch out for them ;)

I'll be happy to answer any more questions should you think of any.

We stayed here in sept 2003 and really enjoyed it. It has a great location with loads of things to do nearby. It is a basic hotel but our room was cleaned everyday and being in Florida we never spent much time there apart from sleeping, we would stay here again as it's great for a cheaper place to stay and we loved the location.:thumbsup2

Stayed there a few years ago and the only thing that sticks in my mind is the noisy neighbours and they like to empty the bins at 6.30 every morning.

thanks guys for information thinking about going there in october 2007 whats the weather like then as we went in june last year and the first week was great and very very hot 2nd week rained every afternoon and didnt stop till about 5ish and all the parks closed which spolit it bit we stayed in a villa last time which was great but trying something a bit cheaper this time

I really enjoyed my stay at the holiday inn international drive, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was lovely and spotless clean. Pools and hot tub were great and location is fab. Havent got a bad word to say about this hotel, strongly recommended! Hope this is of some help.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn International Drive with four other families in May 2005. We absolutely hated it. So did one of the other families, but the other two liked it.

We had tower rooms, which are larger than the average room in Orlando. The in room fridge and the air conditioning made such a racket every night we could not sleep. The windows do not open. We found the area to be really tacky (and we actually like places such as Benidorm and Las Vegas).

I felt like a prisoner in the pool with the railings all round it. Felt like a Spainish holiday.

For my part I am biased. Having stayed on site at a Disney Hotel before I can never go back to staying off site, as for me I like to be imersed in the magic for the whole of my vacation and forget everyday life. However my friends had never been to USA before and were amazed how like Blackpool the area was. Again they have no problem with Blackpool but really did not expect a "Disney" vacation to be like Blackpool.

Sorry to be so blunt and negative but it really did spoil our experience. I know others will disagree, but if you have not booked I thought it would not hurt to be honest.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

We stayed at the holiday inn november 2005 for 8 nights through virgin and we thought it was great. If you intend to do the parkes it is just a base and it is clean and if you compare a 3 star over here to one over there you can say the hotels over there are better. It had a fridge ,coffee making facilities and going in october the weather will be great. Also the crowds will be less .We ahve just got married there in november but we stayed at pop centuary and carribbean beach and I must say for the extra few pounds and the benefits I would consider staying in disney.I am looking at going in october(first 2 weeks and on expedia it is about £1568 for 2 adults and 1 child staying at allstars(though I do prefer pop centuary.Virgin flights are very good.Hope this helps.
