Hi guys.

With the new prices coming out, and WDW a looong way off for us, Jack and I are keen to book a trip to DLRP for the new year.

Our last 3 Disney holidays have really spoiled us hotel wise, and part of the reason we love our trips so much is the magic of the resorts, we’re definitely not “the hotel’s just a place to sleep” kind of people!

Jack and I really loved the DLH (he even says he preferred it to the Grand Floridian) and as our trip is going to be in January it really is lovely to be SO close to the park and have the lovely warm breakfast and lovely restaurants right there.

BUT...for our dates DLH is close on double the price of HNY.....seems a big difference for that walk...

But then I remember the lovely smell, and the views from breakfast, and the lovely rooms....

See my dilemma?

I’m not asking for an answer necessarily, just opinions. XxX

Hi, we've done HNY three times (last week in the Empire State Club :goodvibes ) and DLH once. I love both hotels, in January I would definitely go for DLH if affordable because with 2 kids the walk back through the village in the freezing cold seems to take for hours! If I could walk at my normal speed I think I'd probably do HNY, save the rest of the money and enjoy the shops in the village. ESC was fabulous, but for 4 nights last week (off peak) it was £500 more than DLH - we only really did it because it being half term and Ascension day public holiday we wanted the VIP fastpasses. Also breakfast was great, having the characters come round saved us valuable ride time in the parks, and we made the most of the free afternoon tea as well!

Loved your wedding trippie by the way!

Hi Torsie.
We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel last year & I loved it especially the proximity to Disneyland Park. This year however We could'nt afford there so We stayed at the Hotel New York which I had resigned Myself into thinking would'nt be as good but would still be o.k. How wrong was I? It was fantastic, We all really loved it & I actually prefered it in the respect that I personally felt more relaxed there
Hope this helps Your decision in some way.
Cheers Dawn.

Thanks, Sarah. :)

We loved our January trip because of how quiet the parks were, I don't think we used a fastpass the whole trip! I remember the BTM FP machines being shut!

When I was looking at a halloween trip I thought ESC seemed a good idea because of the VIP FPs but at a quieter time of year it doesn't seem necessary to me....

Nothing about the HNY excites me that much....I'm almost tempted if we decide to go but not stay at DLH to stay at SL instead as it seems to be suited well for winter.....but then that's a REALLY long walk in the cold as we do like to go back to the room quite a bit.....and the breakfasts there are cold.....

Wow, thanks Dawn!

Can I ask why you enjoyed it so much - was it not hard walking under the DLH every day?

Course You can ask! :goodvibes
Firstly We had a really nice room (1101) with double aspect windows overlooking the lake & balloon. The breakfasts were as good as at the DLH (although I did'nt see any pancakes so, maybe not quite as good :rotfl2:) I am a simple kind of girl so I would prefer to help Myself to coffee/tea hence why I felt more relaxed.
Walking under the DLH for the first time did make me whimper like a puppy but only the once :rotfl: & I was dreading the walk back to HNY but in actual fact it did'nt bother Me at all.
We stayed in March for 4 nights (2 adults & Our 10 year old son) & it cost us £642 with under 12's go free & a 2 nights/2days free deal. The weather was fantastic which of course helps!
Cheers Dawn.

We stayed at the SL last November with snow on the ground, tbh the walk was only a few minutes more than the HNY as you can cut through the main lodge if you are not staying in it. It is my dream to stay at the DLH but I have yet to justify the price, maybe next year;)

We've stayed at both and loved them both.....

I love the location of DLH but other than that, I can't really say it offered anything better than HNY. The decor is beautiful at DLH, but in terms of services I can't really think of anything that we did or got that we wouldn't have got at DLH - maybe bathrobes?

The walk through the village is really just a short stroll, so not a major difference.

We only booked DLH last time as the offer that was on made it slightly cheaper for us to have a family 5 room rather than 2 rooms at HNY.

We all love the HNY and actually quite missed it last time. I love that it's one of the quieter hotels and as such not so busy at breakfast or meeting characters each morning. The kids loved the swimming pool and liked the tennis court. We also liked being so near the village if we need to stock up on some juice etc - at DLH it felt like we were going further out of our way to get to the village.

It's a really hard one - I know you'll have fond memories of DLH (lovely ring on your finger) but I honestly cannot think of a single negative thing to say about HNY. We're hoping for some better prices for October and then we'll be booked for a wee HNY stay again.

Good luck deciding :goodvibes

The DLH is lovely and being so close to the parks ideal for popping back to the hotel to warm up in the colder months. However, it is usually very, very expensive!

We've also stayed at HNY. I didn't think I would like this hotel as it has always given me the impression of being a formal business hotel but surprisingly we actually really enjoyed it there. Prices are usually much better than DLH but in terms of service etc are similar. It has a lovely pool. We stayed here in the summer and loved the outside pool and sunbathing area for chilling out in the afternoons, returning to the parks in the evening.

However, one of our favourite hotels is the Sequoia Lodge especially in the colder months. It has a lovely fireplace in the bar where you can warm up. It's not much further to walk than the HNY and the prices again are cheaper leaving more for spending in the parks. They are also in the process of refurbing the rooms. Nice to have a pool again although the water can be on the chilly side.

It's really down to personal preference but if you're trying to go on a budget after your dream WDW wedding, I think you would be equally happy in HNY or SL to the DLH. You might have initial reservations but once you're there I'm sure you'd rather have the extra money for a lovely meal and you could always eat in the DLH.

Thanks for the lovely replies everyone.

It sounds like loads of you feel just like me - worried HNY just doesn't have the 'magic' that DLH does. And it's great to hear you really liked HNY! I know we would, but I also know I'd get that 'pang' everytime we went under the DLH, and when I mention any of the other hotels Jack's face is not a pretty picture :rotfl:

We're going to wait and see if any 40% deals come out. If not then we'll wait another year I think.

You know what it's like not having a trip booked (especially when for the past 3.5 years there's always been one on the horizon!) it's hard to resist!!

having stayed at them both unless they were near enough the same price then the hny would win for me. I liked the DLH and you cant beat the location etc but its not worth that much more money in my eyes. In fact i would probably go for the sequia lodge, by far my fave disney paris hotel and esp in winter. Maybe try the HNY and see what you think, we are slowly working our way round them all (maybe in a lifetime i will also do this in wdw - but i doubt it lol!) just the neport bay to go for paris but it just doesnt appeal to me at the moment!

Thanks, Julie. :)

I really like the SL, and imagine it's wonderful in winter.

Totally with you on doing all the WDW hotels! It's just so hard (for both DLRP and WDW) when you love a resort, and won't be going that often.

I don't want to go to DLRP and not stay at the DLH, or WDW and not stay either AKL or GF, even though I know at both there are other amazing hotels. (Some of which we've stayed at and had wonderful times!)

I just like knowing in advance that I'm going to love what I've spent my money on, as we work so hard the rest of the year that we really like our holidays to be perfect.

Sounds just like me! I even got slaughtered by my best man during his speech because he found my itinerary for our honeymoon to WDW - although I can't recall writing we needed 14 early nights like he said in his speech!

But if DLH really is twice the price of HNY, you can't justify that price difference in my opinion (it was only 20-25% more July for my stay, so isn't too bad, but I don't think I would have booked it at twice the price).

:lmao:

We've just got back from staying at the DLH and it's the only negative thing I found about staying there. We're used to staying offsite and walking back through the Village on the way back every night and caught up in the bubble of the DLH I really found we had to make the effort to go there.

I absolutely adored everything about our stay at the DLH  but if ;) we go next year then our first choice will be New York - not just because it's less expensive but because I like the look of the pool (DLH one was only open on our first day and it just didn't excite me enough to get in) and DH wants to try out all the different hotels.

Does the HNY have the same amount of characters wandering around as the DLH. I am lead to believe that it's like a character breakfast every day!

I wouldn't compare it to a character meal as they don;t come to the table at DLH (or didn't when we were there) but they take it in turns to stand in the lounge bit outside the restaurant.

During our stay we got to meet Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and Abu before breakfast.
