Hmmmm...member referral incentive gone??

The newly released pricing structure for DVCs has me thinking that DVC is doing away with the "member referral" incentives for a new buyer. I didn't see any mention of any additional discount that is being given for new members who have a referral from an existing member. From DVC's standpoint, I can actually see a benefit in doing away with the member referral, both because they can offer an "across the board" discount and because then they wouldn't be obligated to pay the "referral bonus" out to the referring member. What do you guys think? Has this ever happened before??

The member referral was something new in recent times. It has come and gone once already, so this would be the second time I recall it leaving. If it is not listed by DVC, then it is not in effect.

I thought there was a difference still. I spoke with my guide yesterday to get the incentive breakdown for the VGC for someone I was referring and I think she told me the discount would not be $22 if they didn't have a referral.

Yes, there are still incentives for a member referral. Right now, BLT is $5.00 off per point, with no member referral. If you have a member referral, then it is $11.00 off and if you get 200+, then it is $13.00 off.

AKV/SSR is $13.00 off with no member referral. With one, it is $19.00 off and if 200+, then it is $21.00 off.

I am not sure about the GCV numbers but they are similar--a base discount without member referral and additional incentives with one.

Of course, there is still the option of the cruise instead of the additional points reduction.

It's a straight discount offered from Disney. Before today, DVC News had the inventives listed by tier, either with a member referral or without. I'm not trying to pass along bad information, but it just seemed very odd to me that there wasn't any referral incentives offered. I guess once more information comes available, we'll know for sure.

That is what my guide told me yesterday when I asked about the incentives. He gave me the prices for add on's and then said they were also good for "new members with a member referral".

But, of course, he certainly could be wrong or made the wrong assumption and that new members would qualify without one.

But DVC news is usually on top of things so I wonder

DH and I just purchased our First DVC points-210 pts at AKV. Our paperwork was signed and they received it back in Orlando this past Friday. If we had waited we would have saved $630. We bought our pts with a referral for $18 discounted. Today it would be $21. Oh well, we thought we were getting a good deal and we are still EXCITED!!

I believe my guide said VGC without a referral was only $16 off and with a referral it was $22.

Sharing the Magic referall booklet that members have been receiving past 1-2 days by mail offers new purchasers with a member referral
" for a limited time 3 night Disney cruise for up to 4 people when they become members ". Booklet states new purchaser minimum is 160 pts. Cruise must be booked for select sailing dates from Sept 2, 2010 through December 16, 2010.

Current members may also get this cruise incentive if they add-on 100 pts
minimum.

ToddyLu, just FYI, up until the time your contract closes, you can amend it to take advantage of any and all better incentives. I would recommend calling your Guide (or, if he/she is not available, MS Accounting) today and asking whether or not your contract has closed. If your contract has not closed, DVC will simply send you a new contract packet with new closing documents. This is routinely done, and especially when incentives change. It's worth a call if nothing else. Good luck!
