I agree with you. The mug costs are a small part of everyones Disney budget. I guess it won't get better until Disney starts to enforce the policy. Then we will get to hear everyone complaining about this NEW policy.

Your right, they'll probably end up using a bar code or something which was the rumor before our last trip. I heard they were doing a test run at one of the water parks???

That's what ends up happening when people try to cheat a system. They have to make it harder or impossible to do buy completely changing the system.

People are not cheating the system if they purchased mugs under Disney's own admission "good for refills forever." Cheating the system would be taking in your Big Gulp cup and refilling. Disney needs to understand that it sold mugs under this promise. Mugs that pre-date the new policy must be allowed unlimited refills. And, to some people, that extra $50 for a family of 5 was a big expense then and a big expense now. Presumably, they weighed the offer in front of them and purchased something "good forever." These individuals, however, need to understand that there will be a hassle factor in reusing these mugs; i.e., explaining their position. Because I argue for a living, I do not want to deal with this--and my BF would kill me for not leaving work-mentality at home--I will buy new mugs when I go. I just do not think that it is valid to say that an extra $10 for a mug is no big deal when I read constantly on this board about people who save for years to make one trip to Disney, which they know will be their one and only trip to Disney.

I always wondered why they didn't put a little marker or even a small tag that could not be removed with a bar code or something stating the dates you would be staying at the resort. This way, if a CM scanned the bar code & it was past "your dates" you would have to pay for the beverage.

I guess must be a lot harder & probably more costly than I could imagine.

Of course, then there would be an issue with people who have mugs & were told they were good "forever".

Who knows - I'm assuming it's not on Disney's top list of priorities.

I guess I am more understanding of Disney changing the policy. I can respect their business decision. If a family is saving what is another $50 for that once in a lifetime vacation? They certainly have the option of not purchasing the mug and spending much more by not doing so. Disney is offering you a discount for your beverages that one vacation.

There is offering a discount on your one vacation. Disney WAS offering a discount on all your future vacations. Big distinction. As far as the family saving for a once in a lifetime vacation, you will note that that example was separate and apart from my example of a family who budgeted $50 for mugs they could use again. The example of a family saving for a once in a lifetime trip was demonstration of the fact that $$ means different things to different people. What is one man's junk, is another man's treasure. No one can make the judgment that money spent on mugs is a "small" part of one's Disney budget. There's a theoretical debate going on here, couple with a substantive one. Yes, Disney has a right to change a policy and everyone respects that business decision. But, as with all laws and policies, they DO NOT work retroactively. You can't turn to the people who bought mugs under the understanding that they were good forever and say "too bad."

But how can a CM tell the difference between a person who bought during this policy of "forever" and the person who didn't?

We could all say that was the policy when we bought our mugs then??

Well, that's why I said there will be a big hassle factor in reusing mugs. Obviously, Disney is trying to ease people out of these agreements that they made. This is typical of any large business entity. People will be intimidated into thinking they have no right to reuse there mugs, and eventually Disney will prevail. My point is simply that these individuals DO have a right to reuse their mugs; however, they need to realize that they will be cornered into defending their right by people who do not understand the value of the argument.

I have GF, WF, and Grand Cal mugs. I have returned to each and used them. I have always asked when I enter, I bought this on a previous trip, can I still use it? They always have said yes. I do this the first time, I don't do it evry time I refill that trip.

My GF mugs are very old and "spa" is not even on them. I have never had a problem and have used them on three trips.

But, if they decide to change I'll buy new mugs each time. Great souvineers. But, if I were Disney I'd let return customers use theri mugs, small price to pay for the return business and the feeling of appreciation for that business you get by getting to use your old mug.

I think everyone knows when they respond to this subject, it is a debate. How can it not be? Some of us bought mugs and were told good forever..others weren't told that. Even others were told that, and turned around and then saw the sign..and the food court managers told us to ignore it. No matter what is said on this board..the people on this board are not Disney food court managers..they (the managers) have the right to tell you if you can or cannot use your mug. Perhaps the next time they change the design, they can enforce those mugs....if they can get the CM's to stop saying good forever. I personally don't feel anyone on this board has the right to judge how much I spend at Disney, and if I should be able to afford new mugs. I certainly (as I'm sure lots of you did) made my decision to put down that amount of money for five mugs at each resort, based on what the value was suppose to be...and for me, one trip would not have made me make that decision, when bottle water, milk and juice are not part of the refills..what I drink the most of.

This past trip, as usual, all different resorts cups were being used..if the people were told they could, then why would they feel they were cheating? However, those using paper cups, park cups and water park cups..no way could they say they weren't cheating. We saw plenty of those.

Just as a different way of looking at it..imagine you booked your room at Allstars and paid for it. It was $49 a night plus tax (which is what we just paid with AP's). I then got a note from Disney saying they changed the amount of AP discount, and the room is now $59. They even have a sign on their site, saying the AP discount has changed from what they posted last month...for the same dates. How many would say..hey, with what I'm already paying, what's another $70 for our week.
Now, if they said, from now on, I wouldn't have a problem with it..stuff changes. However, I sure don't want to add on that $70 to the amount they already promised me, and been paid for.

We usually return every year to all star music. I brought our mugs back, my husband laughed at me. We will be bringing them back again this summer. If we switch hotels we will buy new ones. It does amaze me though ALL the people that come and fill up every kind of cup and mug around, like plastic, from other places. That to me is very strange. BUt , we just kind of laught. what can you do. And what is realy funny is the GIANT containers with hoses on them that people fill up. lol. I.m sure DIsney has seenit all.

You're right..it's just your opinion. They both come down to costs of vacation and changes after the fact. Both oranges (Florida!) IMO.

We have been questionsed about our old mugs before, but only because the CM's wanted to see them!

We bought the big yellow mugs at DxL in 1996. We have used them 3 times. We used them last March at PO-RS and 1 CM almost came over the counter to get a look. He said"I haven't seen those in SO long. I liked those much better"

I only use mugs at the resort they were bought at. And have never had a problem.

I don't drink soda, I will never buy a mug, here is my two cents.....

If you bought your mug way back when they advertised it as good forever, it IS good forever. They can tell an old mug, the designs have changed over the years. If you buy a mug now, it is only good for your length of stay. This seems so simple to me.

I am not understanding why people are being called cheaters and made to feel as though they are wrong ? I thought the hotel rate comparison was a good one, not apples and oranges at all. At one time, some folks had lifetime passes to DL. You could get into the park for free and then buy your tickets for the individual rides. I don't know how they worked it out once all of your rides were paid for with admission.

I only use mugs at the resort they were bought at. And have never had a problem.

We brought back our old POFQ mugs bought in 1999 (yes we were told good for life at PO and Dixie Landings at the time we bought them) in November and had a few people ask where they could get the mugs we had. They are white with the PO Dragon on them- much cuter than the current ones. The CM's said no problem using the old ones. Oh well...
