Hit And Run By Strollers?

We've just got back last Sunday. My DS is still recovering his wounds behind his heels obtained by a hit-and-run stroller. Nothing major but still painfull and bloody. We strongly believed that parents driving those deadly baby vehicles should look out for people in front of them. DON'T RUN US OVER, PLEASE!! It wouldn't hurt us as much if the driver apologized his wrong doing.
If it happened to any of you before, tell us. Love to hear your story, too.

DS got broken toe by a person pushing a wheelchair. DD injured by jerk pushing empty stroller using to plow a path for his family to exit.I wich the parks had a roped off aread on one side where strollers and carts could move and only run over each other with a separate walking space for pedestrian traffic. It has gotten so we avoid entire park areas like most of fantasy land and toon town in MK because it is too congested w/strollers.Doubles should be front to back rather than side by side.Those are just too wide and injure people.There may be responsible people pushing strollers but too many use it to clear a path,cart around belongings and kids too big for it anyway. Some people insist on trying to bring thier own on crowded buses and train. If people used common sense and courtesy it would be nice but it isnt likely.

I have been hit and have run into people sometimes we as pedestrians just walk to darn slow and there are many many people to try and dodge with the stroller sometimes we get hit or hit others it is a badge of honour to come home with stroller wounds from WDW LOL.

Oooh. I'm sorry about your DS. I hope he's feeling better.

I've been hit a few times by strollers in my lifetime. I'm also a parent who drives a stroller as well. I definitely agree that parents should be very aware of people around them, especially in crowded places like WDW and the DLR. My DH and I make a huge, huge effort to make sure we don't run into anyone.

There are times, though, when people/families who rush to get from one place to another don't notice a stroller coming their way. I can't tell you the number of times where people walk right in front of us or stop suddenly for whatever reason and with two kids in a stroller pushing close to 60-70 lbs, it takes a bit of effort to stop a stroller on a dime. Fortunately, we've not injured anyone, but I think those who walk near/around strollers should also make an effort to be aware of their surroundings too.

I hate to say it but we are guilty of this although it was not entirely our fault. Man decided to step in front of us and we were walking quickly to exit after parade then he decided to stop and look at something. Well we rammed him good!! We did appoligize over and over but he was still annoyed. Sometimes it can't be avoided. He was limping for a little afterward too.

I have had people walk right in front of , or cross in front of my son's wheelchair and almost land in his lap! It is just has annoying as being hit with a stroller or wheelchair. People just don't pay attention to what is going on. One guy that near landed in my child's lap, didn't even

apologize. Gave me a dirty look. Told him that is walk happens when you cut off a wheelchair!

I guess I should have mentioned that the stroller which injured my DS was definitely speeding. Have you seen those ECV's ? WOW!! Those things are lightning fast. We dodged a couple of them in EPCOT.

I am picturing stop lights at intersections and goofy pulling the "driver" over for speeding!I feel a lot of people use the stroller to cut off pedestrians and like a weapon. Last year I had to use a w/c short term and it was so awful.I feel bad for people who must use one every day.It was manual and DD pushed me.we waited a long time for parade only to have a family come stand in front of me.So I was getting a lovely view of some jerks backside but a CM noticed and made them get in back of us. People did cut us off and blocked cut outs in side walk. People just need to be more careful. I also want to mention that if I get struck from behind I feel it is the same as driving a car. If you rear end someone it is YOUR fault. People dont have eyes in back of thier head. If you are pushing your kids you need to watch where you are going.

The biggest complaint I had was strollers, wheelchairs, and very fast walkers alike not watching where they were going and constantly cutting in between my family in the crowds. Having been on the other side of a double stroller for 4 or 5 years I admit that pushing a stroller can be challenging in crowds (thank goodness I don't have to do that anymore), and on occasion I too am guilty of not watching where I am going when walking, but we were cut off over and over and over again when we were there and it was very frustrating that people either couldn't see we were together or didn't have courtesy enough to let us walk together. Fortunately we were on the ball enough that my kids weren't injured, but we could easily have been. We all need to be more careful, and courteous!

I learned to have a new respect for wheel chairs, after I broke my foot and needed to have one. I started out in one of the electric carts, but I got no where with it, because people kept darting in front of me. They don't stop immediately, and instead of enjoying Disney, all my time was spent avoiding the people who suddenly popped up in front of me.
We switched to a wheelchair, and while I could stop it easier, I couldn't believe that people thought I was going too slow, so they just jumped in front of me..one person jumped over the front, and landed on my foot. He was irritated..which I thought was funny. He's the one that jumped over me, and missed the other side.
We sit with ice cream at the end of the night, waiting for the crowds to leave and I see many people in front of stroller, just stop to look at something..and the stroller pusher didn't realize they were going to stop. And then the people they run into, are angry..like they had no responsibility. I think it's a two way street..both the person pushing the stroller, and the person in front of them who stops, or comes sideways, need to be more aware.

Yeah, you would think those darn people would get a Lisence! I can sympathize with both sides on this issue though. The people who drive those things REALLY need to do their best to look where they are going! but sometimes you have other circumstances involved like people running to catch up with someone and cutting you off or little kids trying to get out of the stroller while you are moving or.....! on the OTHER hand, when you are just trying to get through the crowds and POW...you get whacked from behind it can REALLY PEEVE YOU OFF! I try to have patience but sometimes you just KNOW the driver isn't paying ANY attention because they are talking to someone or eating something. I guess all you can do is try to stay calm and go with the flow. Helen

I am sure there are some RUDE people out there who don't care if they run over someone or not. I am sure the majority of the people do apologize and it was an accident. But, there were quite a few occasions where I had to bite my tounge and remember where I was! It can get frustrating on those occasions.

There is a little flame where I am going next. I have been noticing that quite a few adults unknowingly pushed their strollers with their sleeping toddles' little feet dragging and scraping the pavement. Poor babies!!! A word of caution to those parents, please be carefull of your little ones.
Your kids' well-beings will trump any of my complaints anytime!

Well the person who drives me the most crazy is my own son! He is 5 and no matter how many times I tell him to stop jumping in front of the stroller he still does it! Yes he has gotten clobbered a couple of times his movements ar so unpredictable. I always get dirty looks from other people when I take my own son out. Last time I was at MGM I whitnessed an other mom run her kid over too totally knocked him over...he didn't get hurt too bad, but he was about 12! I guess they never learn.

I agree and it isn't just strollers they do it with shopping carts at the grocery store to I have finally given up even trying to avoid my kids with the carts if I hit them it is their own fault for walking in front of me.

We have had a problem when pushing my Mom in a wheelchair. People just cut right in front and you can't stop on a dime.

Try getting off the ferry at MK with the stroller without hitting someone who is trying to push around you. I couldn't believe how rude people were cutting in front of us (whole families) getting off the ferry. That said, I try to be careful not to ram anyone but when I do, I say sorry. We had a tough time getting out of Epcot after the laser show and then some guy cut in front of us and lit up and I had to swerve around to miss him and his cigarette ash. I got out of his way but if it wasn't the happiest place on earth I might have rammed him on purpose.
I felt sorry for the wheelchair folks...I witnessed no respect for them in a crowd.

I, too, have been rammed by stroller drivers, sometimes being pushed by a child rather than an adult. Seems people operating them are sometimes not able to judge the distance a stroller requires in front of their body. I realize most will disagree, but we never took our kids to Disney until they were old enough to walk on their own. We felt they would not be old enough to appreciate the experience until they were at least 5 or 6 anyway, at which time they could walk themselves. Yes, I know some of you will argue that at age 2 their eyes light up with the "magic of disney", but they light up just the same on the cereal aisle of the grocery store, so I feel they should be old enough to at least remember the trip. Disney trips are not commonplace annual events like for some of you, so I wanted them to be able to enjoy & remember the experience.

Back to topic, yes, many stroller operators need a license/training, but in today's world, one must expect to have to navigate around them. If everyone in public places would just display common courtesy, we could all have an enjoyable experience.

I hate when they hit the back of your ankles. I was in Epcot the other day and a grouchy man in a scooter crossed right in front of me almost hitting me. His son reminded him to be careful and he actually yelled at me for his poor driving. I am always so considerate of people in wheelchairs and scooters since my Mom has one and always move to the side to let them pass. It is so much more difficult for them. I was shocked at this man's behavior. I find people like that so frustrating. ARGH!!!
