History of DVC

Wow!! I just found this old thread and reread my post. After talking with my husband I realized I was wrong. When we bought in 1991we paid $48-$49 a point! Hard to believe now!!
We've enjoyed many years of wonderful trips through the years and are still enjoying them. Our kids still love to vacation with us. They have been to many countries and our family and friends laugh it was because they loved Epcot so much while they were growing up!! No grandkids yet but time will tell.
It's amazing that there are so many of us now. DVC has come a long way since way back when I had to carry around a picture of The Disney Vacation Club because nobody believed me when I told them we were buying a timeshare in Disney World!

To all my fellow members, Enjoy The Magic!!

Thanks to the inspiration of this great thread, I started digging into my old circa 1996 binder and came across "the Art of Disney Vacation Club" on the cover of a notebook. I believe it from somewhere around 2005. The first page states "This keepsake calendar is comprised of exclusive artwork commissioned by Disney Vacation Club . The illustrations featured on the following pages have appeared in recent Member communications. As you enjoy another year full of magical memories, we hope that this colorful collection brightens each and every day!" What a beautiful find and it is clear that at that time, Disney was proud and excited by what they had created...and considered members to be a valuable part of the Disney family...

Edit: there are no years, just January, February and so on with lines so it can be used any year

How cool is that? I am so enjoying the comments rolling in, and the memories you've all shared.

Can you take a picture and attach it for us so we can see?:)

When we purchased in 1993, it was definitely marketed as a 'Home-Away-From-Home' but Theme Park attendance was an important component since though 12/31/1999 Membership at OKW and VB (for those who purchased before HH and BWV opened) included Park Passes. Those staying in Studios and 1BR villas received up to 2 park passes, those in 2BR villas received up to 4 park passes and those staying in GVs received up to 6 park passes based on the number registered for the villa.

A lawsuit was even involved when Members were borrowing points from their 2000 Use Year for reservations before 12/31/1999 and were told they could not receive the passes (my recollection is that those affected did receive the passes).

I have posted marketing materials over the years and will try to relocate some of the items from those early days. There was a great catalogue of DVC Member Logo items for purchase which has since fallen by the wayside.

Until BWV, DVC was still trying to make sure the brand was recognized and had many programs available to make DVC Membership 'Magical'.

Not that is still isn't 'Magical', but there was a much stronger effort made in the first few years. :teeth:

Anyone got any links to videos, pictures, post ect that Disney wishes they had never put out there with DVC? Stuff that is coming back to haunt them? Anything that could be used in court against them if they try to screw over members? I know they despise those low BWVs and BCVs point charts now, but what else could they just kick themselves over?
