hey :) I've booked a beach day through a third party booking company (shoreside excursions) during our Cozumel stop on our Fantasy cruise in Oct. I will need transportation to mr Sanchos beach, is hiring a cab in Cozumel a pretty safe and easy process?

Disclaimer: I haven't been, but I have done a lot of RECENT reading.

It sounds like it's pretty straightforward and easy, plenty of cabs. The taxi should have a fare sheet, such as pier > mr. sanchos, pier > downtown San Miguel, etc. I believe I read that tipping isn't expected. I want to say you will pay about $8pp. I'm sure someone with more specific/personal knowledge will chime in, but I did get the sense that taxis are pretty much the way to go.

It's super easy. Like Perditax said, the taxis are waiting near the pier and Mr. Sanchos can call one for you. You can pay them in US dollars (more valuable than the peso, so its a good deal for them).

They don't expect any tip??

I remember it was super-easy to get a taxi after getting of the ship, and that the taxi was cheap by US standards. Right where you get out there is a shopping area, and I remember seeing lots of taxis there. We took it to one of the dolphin encounter places (same place as a Disney excursion went) that was a pretty good drive away. But, when it was time to return, I remember feeling kind of lucky to get one back. There was one dropping someone else off there, and we took it back, but there was not a taxi stand or anything that I saw. Perhaps the center there could have called someone though, or maybe there were more taxis out of sight, or there was a temporary lull or whatever, but I remember thinking I didn't know what we'd do if that one taxi hadn't come along.

So, don't worry at all about getting a taxi at the port, but depending on where you end up, you might want to make sure you understand how to get one for the return.

Hi
Yes very easy. We walked through the market and the end there were all the taxis. We needed a van so a man with a walking talkie called in a van for us. If I remember right it was about 45 dollars for 5 adults 3 children and stroller/wheelchair for our son. The driver was very nice and helped us load the chair on and off. We tipped him. I'm sure the drivers would appreciate a tip.
Once we were done at nachi cocoom the desk called a van same process.

Have a wonderful trip

We went to Paradise Beach and they were lined up waiting to take passengers back to the port. They were basically everywhere.

We were docked in cozumel back in april on Carnival and you walked thru the shops and down the street to the left think to where there were tons of cabs waiting. I don't remember the name of the pier but we were at the one near Three Amigos! It's was like 17 dollars for the 4 of us to Mr Sanchos and when we were ready to leave the beach there were plenty already waiting outside mr sanchos! We paid cash and tipped him some too. You'll love Mr Sanchos! It's my new fav spot in Coz! We took a cab back early enough so we could wander thru the shops and took fun pics! Felt totally comfortable there! Happy cruisin!

It's easy, you walk off the pier and then up an escalator, turn left, walk through an open air mall past several go down an escalator and it dumps you out at the taxi stand. At the stand there is a sign showing the prices to most locations so you know they aren't overcharging you. The price doesn't include tip. I would guess Mr. Sanchos has plenty of taxis for the return trip, Paradise Beach certainly did. On the return trip the taxi dropped us off at a different escalator, this one closer to the pier entrance so we only had to walk past a few of the stores. Most of the stores are typical Mexican souvenir stores, we didn't see anything too special but my son did buy a woven bracelet with the colors/name of his favorite NFL team which he loved. (He lost it so we'll be looking for another one next time we are there.)

We vacation in Coz yearly and take taxi's everywhere. It will be easy to catch a taxi both directions. They will be waiting for you and no need to have anyone call a taxi. We pay USD and we tip. Just agree on a price before getting into a taxi.

We found the Taxi's in Cozumel very easy and very clean.

Here's a taxi rate board from early 2013 - hopefully it's legible - this was the largest file they would let me upload to the board.

For Mr. Sanchos it was $17 USD for 1-4 passengers, $25 USD for 5 and $34 for for 6-8.

Enjoy the trip.

We have booked a day at Mr Sanchos. Did you take your own towels or rent theirs? If so, what kind of towels were they? Big beach towels, or those little towels like at hotel pools?

WE brought our own towels from the ship. I don't know that they had towels but not sure.

Ok. I see on the website that you can rent towels, but I was not sure about that. I also didn't know if would be allowed to take towels off of the ship. I would hate to not have a towel, but I also don't want to buy a beach towel as my souvenir either.

We started to pack our own cause I'm always leary of losing the ships towel and then having to fork over like 30 bucks or something cause I lost it or someone took it! But I ran out of room!

Yes, I overpack as it is and am working really hard to keep us to a minimum of suitacases for this trip. Adding in beach towels uses up a lot of valuable space. Paying $30 for Mickey's beach towels is not my idea of a good time either. I will continue to debate this plan in my brain until we leave.

DCL doesn't keep track of the beach/pool towels you use. I understand some of the other cruise lines have a beach/pool towel card or exchange program. DCL does not.

I wouldn't pack towels for your cruise.

One more thing, getting a cab in Cozumel at the port is very easy and safe. Also, at Paradise Beach, cabs were waiting to take us back to port.

Do they sell cheap beach towels at the ports anywhere? In the shops or at beaches?
