Anyone have any good workouts for the extra meat I have sitting on my hips/upper-outer thigh area? I do the eliptical for 25 - 30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week.

Any other ideas are GREATLY appreciated!! That seems to be my "bad" area right now.

TIA!

Lunges and Squats! I know they're not fun, but you cannot do to many. Start with just a few walking lunges and standing squats, but work up to a ton!

Another suggestion would be to take an exercise band and tie it in a knot around your ankles. Than "walk" side to side single steps and eight in each direction. You can also take 4-8 steps forward then back--you'll really feel this in your thighs and buttocks.

All of these are easy to do while watching TV or immediately following your elliptical workout. Have fun!

Yes, I agree - lunges and squats. I hate them but they work. For an extra challenge, if you have a stability ball, put that against a wall behind your back while standing, and slowly move down into a "sitting" position, hold for a couple seconds, and slowly stand back up. Talk about burn!

Good old fashioned leg lifts also work for the side of your thighs (lie on your side and lift your legs).

I agree, Squats and lunges are great for your legs. But don't forget, you can not spot reduce. Work on decreasing overall bodyfat with diet and cardio and extra weight around your hips will come off.

I have dieted and done cardio before and never saw much of a reduction in my hips and thighs (ya know, those saddlebags we all know and love). This time around (starting about 3 weeks ago) I started dieting again, kept up a lot of cardio but added weight machines in. Also have done the Tae Bo "Ultimate Butt" DVD a few times. I found that incorporating the weights has made a HUGE difference. Both times I've lost weight, but this time I've seen a major reduction in my hips and thighs.

If you don't have access to weight machines, do leg lifts, lunges and squats like everyone else said.

Thanks so much for this tip--I did this yesterday and I am feeling it today!

Agree about the lunges. Try doing them while holding a 5lb or 8lb dumbell in each hand. Try backwards lunges - step your leg back instead of going forward and to make it even better put your bent leg up on a 6 - 8" step and step back with your other leg.

I'm a big fan of TaeBo and think it has done wonders for my abs, hips and buns. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! I plan on trying some of these tomorrow, so that I have Sunday to recouperate :rotfl2: !
