Need info about visiting WDW after total hip replacement surgery---I know there are limitations to what can be done for several months----but say after a year, can one ride the rides like rock 'n roller coaster? That ride has an entry where you have to step down into the car and then climb out afterwards---is it "doable" in a year's time or it is something to be "written off"?

My mom spent 4 days at Disneyland 7 months after she had hip replacement surgery. She had no problems at all. Her surgery has done nothing but improve the quality of life, it in no way limits her activities. My mom has rheumatoid arthritis and may need the other hip replaced in the next few years, but she is happy in the knowledge it will not slow her down for long. My parents are extremely active people. I'm so happy my mom has not had any issues with her hip. She did go on the matterhorn at DL without any problems. The only issue is if she would have to raise her hip/leg above 90 degrees, she didn't have a problem with any of the rides she went on.

It shouldn't be a problem, my Dad had is hip replaced in Sept. 2001 and went to DW Sept. 2002 and didn't have any problems. He rode everything there and totally enjoyed himself. He is so glade he had the surgery, because it gave him his life back, before the surgery he could not get down on the floor to play with his grandkids, who were just toddlers at the time. He was in constant pain and just couldn't enjoy an active life. Now you would never know he had the surgery.

I had hip replacement surgery in October of 2000, and in January of 2001, my mom and I went to Disney World. I rode all of the rides (even the ones that would've caused problems for my back/neck being that my neck is "fused" and I have scoliosis) and had a lot of fun, despite of the fact that I tended to worry about my hip "popping out". But, it didn't. You should be able to have a lot of fun.
