We just returned from a week in the World and the heat and humidity really made wearing heavy pin-filled lanyards less enjoyable for all of us. We asked the cast members if the hip lanyards (5" x 5" panels) they use were available for purchase somewhere but they were not. Do any of you have a source or a pattern we can use to make them for our next trip?

I have managed to buy a few of those off that popular auction website. But they are few and far between and go for big bucks! Good luck!

I will say one thing about the hip lanyards your talking about... make sure you have very good backs on your pins. I was always getting replacement pins due to losing them.

Being around the hip they tend to get knocked around more and are subjected to more flapping around than the ones worn around the neck. Personally I liked wearing it much better than the around the neck ones however if it were my pins Id have some locking backs or something better than the normal rubber ones.

Every now and then when I decide to wear my pins I still use the hip one, I also use the over the shoulder one that sits a little higher up on the side than the hip one however as I said if they were my pins that Id have to replace then Id use something else. If I drop one or two pins every now and then its no big deal they will just replace them for me and maybe someone who loves pins will find them.

Do you have any idea what they were made of? It seems that if you, or someone you know (meaning I'd have to ask my DW :)), is crafty, it seems like you could take a swatch of material about 9 x 5, fold over the long end so you could make a belt loop and leave the remaining 5 inches hanging down. Of course, this assumes that what I have pictured in my mind is the same as what you are talking about. I'd be interested to hear about it, too, because I'm not fond of hanging things off my neck, either.

I'll hunt mine out and take a picture front and back and post it tomorrow :)

Hunting around the house for it as we speak... I suspect one of my pin crazy children has taken it somewhere as soon as I find it I'll post the pics :)

Interested in how the loop works, if it slides on a belt, ties on a belt loop, or clips on.
Also interesed in how others would suggest on attaching one to themselves. I know I dont always have on shorts with belt loops. Have seen the ones with the long pocketbook strings, but would like another idea, or 6.

they attached by a clip and are made of canvas.

i was searching around etsy.com last night and found someone who makes and sells them....
the seller is 3sillylittlemonkeys if you're interested.... or at least if you wanted an idea of what a diy one might look like....

i had a link, but i'm still too new to include the link in my post....

Here is a picture of one that I bought as part of a multi-pin set on eBAY. I used it all the time @ WOD in NYC and my son used it @ WDW as he hates things around hs neck.

This one measures 5 inches by 4 inches and is like 2 pieces of heavy canvas sewn together.

The clip on top works well with belt loops or backpack carabiner hooks

We always go in July so I hate lanyards as well. I love the small pin book because I can put so many pins in it. It can be worn on a belt or like I do, on my fanny pack. It's quick to get in and out of when I want to trade, too. Plus it has a zipper pocket for extra supplies.:woohoo:

Okay sorry about the long time it took to post these, I had a few things come up IRL...

This is the one worn by WDW CM's
