This is my third bout with this. The first two times, a cortisone shot took care of it. This time, the cortisone shot only helped for a day or two. So, now I'm going the physical therapy route. According to the therapist my muscles are too tight, so we're working on flexibility, strengthening will come later. I'm using a foam roller to do exercises with, but don't feel much relief. Sitting for more than an hour still causes pain on a scale of 8 or 9 out of 10.

How long is this going to go on? I'm also doing heat before stretching, ibuprofen three times a day and then ice when I really can't take the pain any more.

Anybody else?

There is a technique called "Negative Pressure Massage." I swore I would never try it on my patients because it require the use of a glorified toilet plunger. You read that right. However, I used it a little over a year ago on a patient who just wasn't getting better - and it worked! Better after one treatment, resolved after 3 treatments. She still had to continue stretching so the bursitis wouldn't come back, but the pain was gone, so she could do the stretching without pain. Now every hip bursitis patient gets "The Plunger" :rotfl: And it has working on 95% of them.

Hip bursitis tends to be a recurring problem, once you have it, it's yours. It's just a question of whether you are controlling it or not (or it's controlling you)...After the previous two times you had it, what did you do afterward? What I mean is, do you leada pretty active lifestyle, or more sedentary? Also, what's going on with your feet? It might be more of a foot problem leading to the bursitis, which is why it's recurring more often than it should. Just some thoughts - hope they help...

My dh is suffering from the same thing. He just had a cortisone shot in the s1 last Mon.

He already was having shots in some of his L spots (3 different occasions over the last yr). Then he FINALLY went to physical therapy and was told the same thing. He is too tight.

The stretching and exercise is starting to help him. Before he was avoiding doing any exercise and now that he has gone the opposite route he is doing better.

He has been in pain for the most part for about 9 months now.:guilty:

I have bursitis in one hip and tendonitis in both ankles and I mostly rely on my chiropractor (as both conditions are related to older back problems). I do my own stretching along with a ice/heat regiment but he really is my best help. My PCP put me on a perscription anti-inflamitory and it made me sooooo sick that now I take only low doses of Tylenol. I think stretching and rest when it gets really bad along with the ice/heat work best. I try to stay moderately active too so that my joints stay limber. Also try to stay aware of certain actions that may make it worse (bending or kneeling, heavy lifting, walking/standing with bad posture) as those are most of my triggers. Good luck!

I just wanted to offer my sympathies. I have hip bursitis and it can be miserable! Hoping you get better soon.

LoriABil - I am off to google Negative Pressure Massage! This sounds promising. :)

I've had 2 bouts of bursitis in my left shoulder. Went to my chiropractor both times. No problems. :) I'm sure hip bursitis is horrible though--esp. if you stand a lot in your work. :( I hope you find some relief.
I'm having tendinitis trouble in my left wrist and I really think it is from the Leviquin I took a few months back. That hurts a lot also. :(
