Booked this many times with holiday extras staying in the long term car park - no problem. This time at check in was told they now use 'summertime parking', no choice. This parking arrangement is a pain compared with long term parking. They take your keys & park your car & keep your keys. I don't like that. The following morning I usually go back to the car to dump the hotel overnight bag, this is not allowed! I had to take all that stuff to Orlando! Compared to the long term car park, summertime is a long way from the terminal & on return we waited 25mins for the bus to pick us up! I would have been much better off staying off airport & saved a days parking fee which I will do in future if the Hilton continue to use Summertime.

hi terry
thanxs for that,we were just talking about booking to stay at the hilton and doing the twilight check-in,i was going to plan on dumping some stuff in the boot before we go to departure lounge on that morning:( now i will proberbly just do the twilight and come back to the airport in the morning:D :D
thanxs eve

We encountered this little problem three weeks ago, I wouldn't have minded so much if I had been informed prior to my travelling down and trying to park in the car park next to the Hilton.

The North terminal (where the Sumertime Parking is located) is only 5mins away, but the hanging around for buses etc is a pain and something you don't need after an 8hour flight through the night....!!!!!

Its done now anyway, but it would have been nice to have been informed.

This is a bit annoying!

We stayed at the Gatwick Hilton last trip and used the normal long stay carpark, and I went back to the car and deposited our overnight bag in the car the next morning. It was all very easy and didn't take much time.

I do not like the idea of leaving my car keys with a total stranger for 2 weeks!
Are the keys kept secure, are the staff properly vetted, are they fully insured?

I guess if we can't take our overnight things back to the car we will have to either take them with us as additional hand luggage  or just take old stuff that can be left behind (I could take some of the Virgin goodies we got on the plane last trip :) ).

They keep your keys of course so they can take your car somewhere & park it sardine style. What also annoyed us was the porky-telling parking receptionist told us the hotel would keep a bag for the duration of the holiday, probably to get rid of Mr. Angrybutpolite (me!) At the hotel reception - NO WAY!!
The bus took 7 mins from Sth Term to car park, no traffic, no stops.
