Have you ever vacationed at HH during the summer? We want an oceanfront villa if possible, but I'm not sure how to locate one. Do we call a travel agent, or do we just look online at various sites that offer vacation rentals? My fear with that is this: how do I know these companies are reputable? I'd rather have a travel agent do the work for me.

Where did you stay? What did you do?

bumping because I'm curious about Hilton Head too! Thinking of vacationing there in July, but have no clue how to go about finding a nice oceanfront place to stay.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :sunny:

We have rented from this place for the past 4 years: SeaCoast Rentals

Oceanfront rentals on Hilton Head Island are VERY expensive.

On this site, look up the property 1 Nighthawk. It is a 4 bedroom house about 70 yards from the beach. Pool/Jacuzzi...This house is just a few years old, we have rented it for the past 3 years.

We LOVE Hilton Head!!! If we don't head to WDW then we're on the island. Last year we stayed at Shorewood villas. My DMIL made the ressies through a real estate agency on the island. The villa was oceanfront and right next to the pool. It was really nice, but expensive. I think close to $1400 for a 3 brd/3bth. It was in forest beach within walking distance to Coligny plaza.

2 years ago we stayed in Beachwalk in Shipyard. We rented through VRBO website. We had a great 1 br/2bath condo with a huge wraparound deck. However, it was on the golf course not oceanfront. But for the week it only ran around $600. And it was in very close proximity to the ocean. We were just across the street from the Crowne Plaza hotel and beach access.

Have a great trip. Always check out the Hilton Head Chamber of Commerce website and they should have links to rental agencies on the island. :sunny:

I've stayed at a couple of the Marriot properties (Barony Beach and Grande Ocean). Both are ocean front and great. I was with friends who owned Marriot points, so I'm not sure what the price is.

We've stayed in Palmetto Dunes twice at the Villa Mare. We stayed in a 2 bedroom beachfront condo. Absolutely beautiful. If you click on this link, you can scroll down and see pics of the property. We've gone both times in the spring, Easter break and I thought it was reasonable.

Just search for HH Vacation rentals on google or Yahoo. There are a ton of agencies that represent properties. At HH though, even ocean front might not see the ocean because of the dense vegatation(thinking of the Crowne Plaza) Many great properties are in plantations and are not ocean front but are on the bike path and everyone rides their bike or walks down the path to the beach. Sea Pines has a lot of houses and they will be listed as 4th row or 2nd row from the ocean. These are on lanes off the main road and all will have a walkway to the beach also from the end of the lane.

I'd recommend Island Getaway as a very reputable rental agency. They are the only rental agency ever to be named Business of the Year by the HH Chamber of Commerce. They have rental properties all over the island.

Ranatra,
We used to own a Villamare unit! Accordingly, I'd highly recommend renting on Palmetto Dunes. It's central location makes it convenient to everything.

We're DVC members, so we stay at the DVC resort. I think they do cash rentals for non-members too, but it's one of the most popular DVC resorts. Wonderful place - good luck. It is not ocean front (it's on marshland, and they have on-resort nature studies programs that me & my son loved). They do have a beach house free for use for guests - it's a short walk, bike, or drive from the resort to the beach house.

Hilton Head is perfect for day trips to Charleston, SC & Savannah, GA.
