I've been thinking a little about taking a trip to the Hilton Head DVC. Can someone who is more familiar with the area help me? I'm wondering where to fly into and what months are good to go? Are there months that are typically cheaper to fly there?

I did a little looking online about flights from SLC for various months, but they were like $400-500:eek:

I don't mind doing some driving if it is going to save me a bunch on the flight, so can you recommend neighboring airports?

Savannah, GA (aiport code SAV) is the closest major airport, and that's where most people fly into. It's about 40 minutes southwest of HHI.

I'm flying USAIR from Rochester NY this summer for $550 round-trip for two people.

Hope I've helped!

You sure you can get to SAV from SLC?? :rotfl2:

You won't be paying much less than $500 per person for that flight. SAV is primarily a USAir airport, but American would offer some flights to DFW. Unless you go from SLC to DFW to SAV, you are faced with two and three stops to get to SAV (and 9 to 11 hours for your trip). If you go with America Airlines, you will pay an easy $550.

Got an FF miles??

So it sounds like it isn't going to be cheap to go to SAV. Has anyone gone into other aiports and had to drive more?

Check out the travel site called www.sidestep.com . It gives alternate airports and prices. You can also fly into Charleston or Jacksonville if you don't mind a 2 to 2.5 hour drive onto the island.

Best time to go: summer, the ocean is 85 degrees. But that's also the most crowded time, so if planning to use DVC points call for availability first.

Charleston would be another reasonable airport, but prices will be about the same as Savannah. Plus the extra 1 hour and 15 min drive.

If driving really is not a problem, check out Atlanta. You would eliminate one flight segment, and have much better prices for both plane and car. Downside would be the 4 hour and 20 min drive - almost all interstate though.

I know that Continental flies to both Savannah and Salt Lake City (thank goodness, since it's about the only airline at the airport near us).

We fly Southwest in and out of Jacksonville - it is a 3 hr drive, but the flights are direct and reasonable.

:thumbsup2

Another thing I found is that rental car prices in Savannah are astronomical. Generally, Florida rentals are much cheaper. So flying into Jacksonville can save you significantly on both airfare and car rental. It's about a 2 and a half or 3 hour drive from Jax to HH.
