We have been to HHI many times when our kids were younger. Now they are older and we are looking to try recreation activities they were too young to do before.
Kids will be 12, 10 and 10.
We are once again staying on Disney property.
I'm looking for suggestions for:

1. Golf : ideally some sort learn to play program, with perhaps a fairly beginner course
2. Kayaking options
3. Bike rentals: I know we can rent through Disney but just wondering if there is an advantage to other options. Also looking for specific suggestions on where we could bike as a family.

Regarding golf, DH has played at every course on HHI, except the private ones (yes, that's lots of golf) so I asked him for the easiest ones. He recommended any in Port Royal-Barony, Robber's Row, and I forget the name of the third.

There are basically 3 kayak options - Broad Creek Marsh, local canals, Atlantic ocean.

For Broad Creek - you can take a kayak tour through the resort. Right across from the resort in Shelter Cove there is also Outside Hilton Head that rents kayaks (and paddle boards) for use in the Marsh.

For local Palmetto Dunes canals - on the way to the beach just before the guard gate, there is a rental place (Hilton Head Outfitters) for kayaks (and bikes). These kayaks are for use in the local canal system.

For ocean kayaking - you can rent kayaks on the beach from the Beach Patrol lifeguards.

If you have a way to roof-top a kayak, you can find other options for rental, but having a place to launch is another issue then.

There are about 60 miles of paved bikepaths on Hilton Head. There is a bike path that parallels HWY 278 over much of the island. In addition there are also bike paths throughout the residential plantations. The path through Palmetto Dunes is public - some are not unless you are a resident or guest (Sea Pines). There is no problem finding great places to ride (including the beach). - http://www.hiltonheadislandsc.gov/publications/brochures/BikePathBrochure.pdf

There are a number of bike rental options with competitive pricing and they will deliver and pick-up to/from the DVC Resort.

Enjoy! :)
