Hi there,
I'd like to know your opinions on using a studio for a family of 2 adults, 2 kids ages 6 and 2. How are they in size, location for small kids? What are the beds like - is it a queen and sleeper sofa? Any suggestions for what I might want to request? Are most rooms at HH nonsmoking? I'd love to book a one bedroom but they are gone during my timeframe.

Thanks very much!

I don't know exact square footage, but they are a nice, large room. There is a queen size bed and a sleeper sofa, a small round table with two chairs, and the kitchenette is around the corner from the actual sleeping area. My 82 year old mom slept on the sofa bed (because it had one of those head rests that "flips" up) and she said it was comfortable.

The studio is a queen and sleeper sofa. We staying in a studio for 5 nights when DDs were 8 and 3. It really wasn't bad at all, but this was before we ever tried a 1 or 2dbr! :) The kitchenette is right when you walk in and the rest of the studio is around the corner. There are only 21 studios at the resort and most are in the lodge area. I would request the type of view you want - marsh or island or pool. But I have to warn you that even if you get a marsh view it could be blocked by trees. I am also not sure if any of the studios have a pool view. I'm not sure about the % of smoking vs non-smoking rooms, but ours was non-smoking. Ours was also HCA accessible, since you have a 2 yo if not having a tub is an issue, be sure to request non-HCA.

Which studio was that that was HCA?
We had #2814-not HCA, which had a view just of the internal woods. We also stayed 3 nights in a 1 BR in the Main lodge, on the third floor. Talked to a couple in the studio across the hall from us in the main lodge-1136? They said they had a lovely view. We really preferred being in the main lodge, the balconies were very private for one thing, and the location was more convenient for coming and going. However, #2814 was probably more convenient to the pool.

I almost forgot-the studios at HH are about 450 square feet, the largest of any DVC resort.

Thanks for the replies and tips. It sounds like a studio will work for us - I was a little worried about space. I can't wait! We aren't members yet, this will be our first experience at a DVC resort.

Have a great weekend!

There are a total of 21 studios at the resort and 16 of those are in the main lodge area (buildings 11,12).

Here is a description of the <a href="http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=226883">HH Resort layout.</a>

You'll have a great time!

Enjoy!

A studio will be a great size for adults & two kids.

Here's a word of advice: Don't let them put you in studio #1212. Although it has a great view, there were two issues with the room that I was disappointed with.

1. It's a handicap-accessible room. Normally that's not a big deal for us (we have stayed at other resorts in HCA rooms and it really didn't matter to us). However, the beds in the resort are very, very low. So low, in fact, that my husband nearly tripped over the edge a few times. Also, there is no bath tub....it's a stall shower only.

2. In this particular unit, they have one of those teeny-tiny refrigerators that hold only a 6-pack of cans and maybe a few pieces of fruit. Definitely not large enough for a family with kids. It seemed as though the other studios on our floor had the normal refrigerator, so I'm sure any other studio will be fine for your needs.

Have fun.......this is a beautiful resort! Take advantage of the dolphin excursion - it's so much fun! Spend lots of time by the Big Dipper pool - your kids will love the slide!

Kim&Chris - thanks for the heads up about that unit. I will ask for a room with a tub for DD and definitely would like a normal size frig.

Doc- great information, thanks so much. That answers some other questions I had!

I've got to get one of those counter things for my posts, trip is about 6 weeks away - I can hardly stand it!

:) oh, I got it to work - so the trip is in:

We were in 1221 (we had 2bdr 2112 the next year - how weird is that?). The mini-frig was a normal size, but it was HCA and our "marsh" view was a bunch of trees. This was totally fine by us and we could even still see the fireworks over the trees. I don't recall the bed being really low, but it could have been. I only mention the HCA part because with a small child in a studio a tub can be pretty important.
