We're excited about taking our first trip to HHI in a few weeks. With the help of these Boards, Frommer's and the hhidinging.com website, we've selected restaurants that we think we want to try. There are some (Kingfishers, Old Oyster Factory and Old Fort Pub) that we know for sure that we want to try. But there are a few others we are on the fence about.

Has anyone been to the Big Bamboo Cafe? It sounds like a lot of fun, but in reading about it we can't help thinking that it might be like the Sci-Fi Dine-in; great atmosphere, so-so food. Also, what about Sticky Fingers and San Miquel's; worth it? One final question; which is better food-wise, the Salty Dog Cafe or the Wreck of the Salty Dog?

Thanks for any help and advice!

Personally, I'd skip Kingfisher's and go across the road to Scott's instead. We've eaten at Kingfisher's twice and would not recommend it after either experience. Scott's has almost always gotten raves from the DVCers who post here, us included.

We've had great experiences at Big Bamboo. Not fine dining by any stretch of the imagination, but the food has always been good and a decent value for Hilton Head!

Old Fort Pub is wonderful for a special night out. Another recommendation in that category would be Alexander's -- right on the way to the beach house.

Sticky Fingers is a chain, and we tend to avoid those in Hilton Head, beause there are so many other options. Have only been to San Miguel's once -- it was OK, but we try to stick more to seafood when in Hilton Head.

Check out this thread on the DVC Mousecellaneous board for some other recommendations: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1093656.

Enjoy your trip!!! :sunny:

I haven't eaten at the Stikcy Fingers in HH, but have in Charleston and Wilmington. My family really likes the rib sampler. I like it, but don't love.

We did not enjoy our meal at San Miguels--rude waitress, had to wait for glasses to go thru the dishwasher before we could get water; very noisy place.

We loved Truffles in Bluffton, near the outlets.

We ate a place in 2005 just down the highway from the HH resort called the "Iron Wolf." I am pretty sure that was the name.

Food was great. We went early and the prices were great. Service was fast.

We ate at Big Bamboo on our trip last July and the food wasn't great, but it was a fun place. We like Crazy Crab in Harbor Town, Franky Bones in Hilton Head Plantation, the Boathouse next to the Ferry to Daufuskie Island, and Skillets in Coligny Plaza for breakfast.

Iron Wolf has closed.

Sticky Fingers is pretty good in my book. Practically next door is RedFish, which is wonderful, but pricey.

Another website to check out is 10best.com . They've never let us down on their recommendations, from NYC to HHI.

Have fun! :sunny:

We just returned a few days ago from Hilton Head and had a wonderful relaxing vacation.

Make sure and check out the internet site that sells certificates for restaurants There are quite a few restaurants listed there.

We used 8 certificates at different restaurants and saved our family of four around $160 dollars.

I am happy to say I did not cook once during our 10 day vacation and we ate really good meals! :yay:

Have fun! We loved walking the beach at 7 in the morning!

We just returned yesterday. Had some good food too! Although it is very "down home" (read into that not fancy AT ALL) we loved the food at the Sea Shack. Several locals advised us to go and they were right! The have a huge menu and very reasonable prices. Definately a local favorite. We did not care for San Miguel primarily because we prefer spicy Tex-Mex kind of food. We also ate at the Salty Dog Cafe for lunch, DH had a Oyster Po Boy that was very good and I had shrimp salad that wasn't so good--not bad just very bland. The Wreck of the Salty Dog has a different feel and different menu so I can't really compare the two.

Well, we are one of the few (I guess) that have always enjoyed San Miguels. They have a wonderful Cadillac Margarita (pricey, but worth about two regular margaritas). MY DD and I shared a chimichanga. Can't remember the name but it was the huge one. Only thing we didn't like about eating here was we ate outside at dusk and we got eaten on by the insects.

We loved Giuseppies pizza. My sister thought the crust was a little too doughey though.

We rode our bikes to both of these and had a great time on the trips over and back. There is also an icecream place by Giuseppies. Although we didn't get any, we will remember that in the future.

For breakfast one morning, we tried Signes. It was fabulous!! Very simple place (like a bakery) but very good. I had the key lime bread pudding. Very good! And my DD and I shared the blackberry french toast one morning. Also excellent and big portions!

My sister loved hers as well which was an omelette. Can't remember the name, but it was good.

Hope this helps. We hope to try Scotts next time. My sister and I rode over and had a drink one afternoon but we've not eaten there. We were on a tighter budget than normal but next time, we will try a few of the others!

Have fun!!!! I'm very envious. But, I am really considering waiting to go back to WDW for another year (we have ressies for Oct.) and going back to HH with my parents. They would love it!!
