Hilton Head Resort - Thanksgiving Week

My husband and I are HH owners who have not been to the resort in quite a few years and have a reservation for Thanksgiving. So excited!

My question pertains to the condition of the rooms. I have read quite a few posts on Facebook that the villas are in desperate need of refurbishment. Can someone who has visited the resort recently comment. We will be staying in a one bedroom - hopefully in the main lodge. Thanks!

We stayed in a studio in main lodge on 3/20/21.
Everything seemed fine and workable, but the carpet appeared worn.

We went to HH for the first time in August 2020 so we do not have a previous comparison of that resort but have been DVC owners for about 12 years (BLT & VB). We had stayed at all of the DVC resorts except HH so when the pandemic hit and we were not ready to fly we decided to start stalking HH and were able to string together 5 nights in a 2 bedroom in Aug. We really enjoyed the resort location and the ability to bike everywhere. It was so much fun. As owners at VB it reminded us what VB was like before its major refurb. As you probably know HH is set for a major renovation next year so my guess is that is why people are commenting about its current state - if there is something that needs to be fixed they will address it but nothing new will go in at this point. It definitely needs a renovation. There is nothing wrong with it but the furniture is worn and older and one thing I noticed were the outlets - they had been used so much you barely could get the plug to stay in some of them as they would fall out! The still have carpet in many places so that is worn and assume they will do what VB did and remove much of that and replace with the faux hard wood so it is easier to keep clean. Having said that, it wasn't a major concern to us as we loved sitting out on the balcony with the marsh view, etc. I guess I would say to expect the room itself to seem a little dated and worn. It was clean but is ready for a full refurb.

I wouldn't call it a desperate need, but the rooms could use some updating. The resort was due for refurbishment in '19 which got pushed back a year. Then, Covid hit, so the target date is '22. Yes, some of the furnishings are a little worn; however, overall, the rooms are in good shape. As another mentioned, you'll spend most of your time on the balcony or doing activities or just soaking up the ambiance. For the 1BR in the main lodge, your odds are good since nearly all of the 1BRs are located in Bldgs 11 (main lodge) and 12 (attached to main lodge and shares the lone guest elevator on property). Only five other 1BR units exist outside these two buildings. Have a good trip--it's lovely here!

Thanks for the additional feedback everyone! I will share with DH and see whether we want to keep our reservation or head to Vero instead.

We stayed at SSR in Congress Park right before it was renovated and while the room was super clean it definitely needEd the refurb. It didn’t ruin our trip but since we spent quite a bit of time in the room we were not the happiest with its condition.

See you there! We've been regulars at HHI over Thanksgiving every year since 2006, also in a one bedroom. The living room sofa is pretty sad, IMHO, but everything else is usually fine. Oh-and there's a one bedroom that has a loose plug in the bedroom that's been that way for at least 10 years. I won't say which one, since that one's one we request, loose plug and all!

we just came home from HHI (such a fantastic resort and island in general). We were in a 2 bedroom but I thought everything was fine- minus a random loose plug! I also thought the cabinets could use a good scrub down (seem like they had a film on them but I also thought the same of the Grand Floridian when we stayed there in February so it's probably just the type of wood/paint combo. Enjoy!
