Unexpectedly our waitlist for a studio came through! So we are going in 3 weeks!!! Children ages 8 & 10. Us active mid-50’s.
Can you bring your own bicycles? Can your bring your own boat - are there boat slips for DVC members?
Good places to eat close to resort? We are in a studio so no cooking!

I know that lots of people bring their own bikes. By "close to the resort", I assume you mean walking distance. Lots of people like Scott's Fish Market and Mediterranean Harbor. For a continental breakfast or sweets anytime, Hilton Head Social Bakery is a big hit. A little further away is Poseidon-great for seafood. There are 21 studios at HHI resort, 16 of which are in the main building any attached building 12. The other 5 are in other buildings, but on the first floor, and subject to footsteps from above. I recommend the main lodge!

DH and I just returned from HHI. (Did not stay DVC) Shelter Cove is a shopping/dining area near the DVC resort. Every Tuesday through end of August there is a free fireworks show. We also ate at Poseidon (also in Shelter Cove), good food and drinks. Get a reservation! The wait for those without one was over an hour and a half by the time we finished our meal on Thursday evening.

I don't know if outside bike rentals are permitted at the resort, if they are I recommend Hilton Head Bicycle Company. Easy to book online and very friendly on the phone too.

Thanks for all the info! I didn’t realize there were studios outside the main lodge. I’ll call and try to request main lodge. We plan to bring our own bikes on a bike rack. Thanks for restaurant recommendations and fireworks tip!

We've been coming to HHI for a few years, and this was the first time our waitlist came through, as well. We're here now until Sunday. Most of your questions have been answered. The ability to find good restaurants is nearly unparalleled at HHI, including several to which you can walk or bike. There are a few good places at the shopping center a 10-15 minute walk from the resort along a well-traveled bike/walking path. Since Tide Me Over doesn't open until 8, you can get lattes at Starbucks at the shopping center (there is a standalone and one in Kroger which is a 5-minute walk from the standalone). Poseidon is good; there's the French Bakery there, a BBQ place, pizza joint, a beer kitchen/pub, ice cream parlor, and quite a few others. If you bike, you can go even farther and within a mile have great Italian (OMBRA Cucina), seafood, etc. As for cooking, no there's not stove in a studio, but the grills are used quite a bit at HHI, and they're dotted all over the grounds. We actually stopped and bought some oysters, so for lunch today we had oysters on the half shell with our own "house made" cocktail sauce. Obviously, you could buy shrimp for a peel n' eat lunch, too. Anyway, it's a great place to relax and enjoy great food and the best CMs anywhere.

I definitely recommend the French Bakery for breakfast (DD13 requires it!). The grills at the resort (Tide Me Over) and the beach house (Signals) are actually pretty good. TMO also serves made-to-order Mickey waffles for breakfast and Signals serves Dole Whip!

For dinner, we love The Jazz Corner. Great live jazz and they are thrilled when kids get to experience the music - we’ve been bringing our kids since our youngest was 4. The owner has come to our table multiple times to thank us for bringing them. The Low Country Backyard BBQ is another favorite - and they have yard games in the “backyard” area to keep the kids entertained. Other good options include Ombra Cucina and any of the Serg restaurants (Giuseppi’s for pizza and Wise Guys for steak are go-tos). Mellow Mushroom is another good pizza place.

We enjoyed Scott's Fish Market and Bucci & Murray's, both in Shelter Cove which is a quick walk. Make sure to visit Hilton Head Social Bakery located in Shelter Cove, too!

One Hot Mama's, Low Country Backyard and Jazz Corner were all excellent. Wide range of prices and options but we enjoyed everything we ate all week!

Just back for HHI (I-95 was horrible, btw), and here were our meals.
- Fish Camp on Broad Creek: excellent as usual
- Poseidon: our least favorite; not bad but not memorable
- Scott's Fish Market: convenient and solid
- Social Bakery (next to Scott's): very good pastries and tarts if a tad dry
- Skull Creek Boathouse: they always deliver the goods--excellent food, service, drinks--our favorite
- Tide Me Over: gotta love those made-to-order Mickey waffles
- Low Country boil extravaganza in our room the last night: Stunningly marvelous
