We are going to HHI in August for a week. I would like to know some of your dining recomendations for the area?

Thanks!:earsboy:

We just got back. We ate at a wide variety of restaurants from seafood to Italian to wings and burgers. What are you looking for in terms of price, type of food, etc? Any kids? I would be glad to help.

COACHSTING:

YES THERE WILL BE KIDS, (FIVE) A TOTAL OF TWELVE OF US. SEAFOOD, PIZZA, BURGERS, WINGS, REALLY, WE LIKE ALL KINDS OF FOOD. I HOPE THIS HELPS.:earsboy:

I don't know if you like cajun cooking or not, but my wife and I felt like we found a gem when we ate at a little place called Kenny B's French Quarter Cafe. You won't find it being highly advertised, but I really enjoyed the food a whole lot. It's the only place we ate at twice -- once for breakfast and once for dinner. Great both times!

Fuddruckers, Cracker Barrel (breakfast), Sea Shack, Wild Wings and favorite this last trip - the early bird at Kamura.

When you arrive at Hilton Head, pick up a "Hilton Head Island Restaurants" guide. The guide is a booklet printed on newsprint, located in newspaper like stands in front of most restaurants, shops and motels. The guide has the complete menu from over 120 area restaurants.

We were there in June and absolutely loved 2 restaurants: Sante Fe and Red Fish. Santa Fe was my favorite. Red Fish was recommended by no less than 3 different locals. Both welcomed our children, however, the prices and menu selections were a little more geared toward grown-up tastes.

Salty Dog has always been my favorite... they have an indoor restaurant and an outdoor patio with live music... www.saltydogcafe.com

Captain's Seafood just outside the entrance to Shelter Cove.

No need to waste time looking for a guide to Hilton Head dining. The very nice and helpful CMs at the front desk of the resort will offer you a guide when you check-in. If you don't get offered one, just ask as they have them at the desk. We enjoyed the Hilton Head Brewing Company when we were there last week. Wide selection, large children's menu and activities to keep the kids entertained while waiting for their food and afterwards while the adults were enjoying the music. It's located in the back of the Hilton Head Plaza----towards Sea Pines, not too far from the Disney Resort and on the left side of the road. Captain's Seafood is also excellent if you like seafood and the Boathouse is great also.

This is THE place to go! Make it a early dinner one night to:
Aunt Chilada's/Easy Street Cafe
69 Pope Avenue
Hilton Head Island, SC 29928
(843) 785-7700

They have all you can eat crab legs for a great price!
They have it all as well.
Atmosphere is relaxed and fun!

We highly recommend it, been there twice that we have been and it was recommend by a family friends of ours.

p.s. rent bikes for the week! You can ride on the beach!
:sunny:

Have fun!

OK....We had five kids and a variety of tastes, so here goes.....

Wild Wings: Just a short ride from the resort. They had a wide variety of food and everyone said they liked what they had. The place is a huge restaurant and really has a bar/nighclub atmosphere that is really friendly. We had no problem bringing in teenagers, ages 14-17.

The Old Oyster Factory: Great location, great food, but a bit pricy. The location and views are excellent. Seems to be very popular on weekend so expect a wait. Great place if you get a good spot in the rerstaurant to watch the Tuesday night fireworks @ Disney. They have famous t-shirts there.

Cafe' Europa at Harbortown: We waited an hour and twenty minutes to get our meal but the food was great. The place is right under the famous harbortown lighthouse. Also pricy, so we ordered pizza for the kids that night and had dinner just for adults.

Salty Dog at South beach: Lots to do here for the entire fa
mily and relatively cheap. It's a cool spot for the kids with a wide variety of foods, seafood, pizza, burgers, etc. The indoor restaurant is supposedly nice but it had a 3 hour wait. We ate outside at the many tables. it's kinda like and outdoor fleamarket of various foods that appeals to most everyone. This place also sells famous t-shirts. Ice cream too.

The Aunt Cheladas or whatever the place was on Hope Ave (near Wild Wings) was always crowded, but we never made it there.

Guiseppe's: Right near the resort with a homemade icecream parlor around the corner, near Fuddrucker's. This place was alsways packed and we never made it in. The ice cream was realy good here.

The Ice Cream Store in Coligny Square: Another great homemade ice cream factory.

Crackerbarrel was great for family breakfasts.

That was pretty much it for us. Anything I listed was great, except for Aunt Chelada's. We would go back to any of them again.

Oh and Fast43....on our last day, we stopped in and looked at a Grandvilla. It looked really cool.......Downstairs is a big living room with TV and couches and fireplace. The couch is a pullout queen. The kitchen area is large enough and is tucked out of the way. On the other side is a master bedroom with private bath, jacuzzi, etc.

The stairs go up in the middle and lead off into two different rooms with two queens in each. The place can sleep 12 and there is room for infants to slpp in a kids pen in the hallway. You're gonna love it.

We just got back a couple of weeks ago.
If you like ribs/barbeque---Sticky Fingers is great!

We had a great meal at The Old Oyster factory....definately return.

Coachsting, it is a good thing you never made it into Giuseppi's, the pizza was terrible there. We went there on our first trip to HH, and none of us, including my three kids who are not too picky when it comes to pizza liked it there. Besides Captain's Seafood we also like a place called Just Pasta (fresh pastas and sauces) down in Coligny Plaza, followed by Rita's Ices for dessert in the same plaza.

We just got back this saturday....Highly recommend Santa Fe Cafe, Stripes (this one is not mentioned much and not advertised heavily but I can't even tell you how wonderful it is!!! It's truly one of the most spectacular meals I've ever had. Definately a little $$$$ but worth every penny!!!!!) Also if you venture to Beaufort for the day I recommend a place called "steamers" you have to cross the bridge to Lady's Island but this is so worth the drive, It's said to be the home of 'frogmore stew' which is very yummy dish of sausage shrimp potatoes onions and corn cooked in beer old bay and buttery....Very good...The have lots of great seafood and probably the best hamburgers I've ever eaten in my life......Have fun lots of great places to eat on hilton head...these are just a few of my favorites....

For an extra-special treat, don't forget to check the availabilityof Chef Gordon's "A Private Affair"!! The best meal on HHI, without a doubt!

Not sure what the ages of the kids involved are; they may or may not be too crazy about it. Check with Gordon as to what your options are.

Traveling with two young kids we didn't even attempt any fine dining, but the two places my family most enjoyed on our recent trip to the Marriott GO were Wild Wings where we tried the sampler wing platter (choose 5 out of there 31 flavors) and Giuseppi's-- maybe we were just especially hungry but we thought it was some of the best pizza we'd ever eaten.

Sticky Fingers and Fuddruckers. We just alternate nights.........
