Hilton Head in February?

My daughter is graduating from high school at the end of January, and we'd like to take some sort of trip to celebrate. She'll have a break from the end of January until the first week of April when she starts college courses. We are hoping for some sunshine (coming from the Willamette Valley, where Seasonal Affective Disorder is a real thing), and a trip that is fun, but not so fun that our college aged son is too upset about being left behind (WDW, Hawaii, Caribbean, Europe, etc). We have always traveled together, so going somewhere without him will be a first. We could theoretically wait until Spring Break (last week of March) so our son could join, but then we are missing the opportunity to travel during a non-school break period for the first time in 15 years, and the winters are so overcast here that it would be nice to have a break of sun to look forward to closer to when she finishes school.

This is a very long winded way to ask if Hilton Head in February is fun and if there is enough to do to make it worth the time and expense of traveling from Oregon. Our only experiences on the East Coast have been a visit to Washington, DC and three trips to WDW, with a jaunt over to the Space Coast. I have no idea what to expect from Hilton Head, and wonder how it compares to a visit to the (very beautiful, but cold) Oregon Coast, and if HHI is more of a destination for road trippers and people nearby than those who require plane tickets.

Would love feedback. Thanks!

Early February 2022. It was cold and raining! My other pictures don‘t show sun either. This was in a restaurant across from Disney’s HH resort.

I think Vero would be a better choice. There are manatees in Florida springs and sunshine! You would be driving more, to see different FL sights.

January in FL at Blue Springs SP.

Well.....
Quiet
It will be cold/cool by southern standards
The Atlantic is cold and dark in the summer, so worst in February.
Not busy for golf and restaurants .
Great season to go to Savanna, GA and/ Charleston, sc

Hmm. Okay, thank you. This is good feedback. Vero may be a better fit. Can you swim in the ocean at Vero at that time of year? Or any time of year? (Not sure what the shore break is like there.)

But, pretty rough another day in January

I can’t walk on sand, so I don’t go in the ocean. We go to Vero for a bit every January or February and I almost always get to swim in the pool. Bike riding, especially along the Historic Jungle Trail Is very special!

We were there for a week in mid Jan and then another week in early Feb this year. We enjoyed it, but the weather was definitely cool. We didn't care as it was much better than the weather at home (PA) and had a great time. We could walk on the beach on sunny days, but no one was getting in the ocean. There were people in the heated pool at times, though. We plan on going back next year for our new annual get the H E double hockey sticks out of PA in Jan / Feb tour. One big positive - no crowds or traffic! There was no need to even make dinner reservations, as you could pretty much just show up and get a table. One negative - some places we liked were closed for the season, but we still had a great time.

Still, I'm not sure it's the best time to experience all the island offers. (But it beats the heck out of shoveling snow :) ).

We were there 2/14-2/20 last year. Although we had no rain, the outdoor temps didn't get above 65. The kids still swam in the pool, but it wasn’t ideal.

Wife's family is from Portland.

They came to DHHIR with us during their spring break and loved it. (March)

We have visited during Feb at DHHIR and enjoyed our time though.

Thank you. Maybe spring break onward would be a better time to get the full experience.
