I am looking for a gift for my parents for Xmas. They will be going on a trip soon to Hilton Head (they love to golf). So I thought maybe I would get a gift certificate to a golf course down there for them. Anyone know of any nice golf courses down there?? Just an FYI - they are very picky about courses.... :)

Thanks!

A fun outing for a couple that golfs together is Dafuskie Island Resort. They have 2 courses and you take a ferry to the island. Many holes run right along the ocean

Of course the NUMBER 1 course is the Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines. That's the course the PGA Tour plays at and we've all seen that red & white lighthouse across the harbor behind the 18th green. This is VERY expensive and most folks play it just to say they've played it. I'm not crazy about the small greens with lots of trees hanging over them. I played there free though, so I'm not complaining.

A GREAT option is the Golden Bear Course at Indigo Run. I really liked the layout, lots of different types of holes, LOTS of water. They have GPS equipped carts, which is nice. Fun course, and not too expensive.

There's lots of nice courses I've played on Hilton Head Island. PM me if you have any specific questions I may be able to help with.

Thank you SO much for the info - I will definatly look into the courses you mentioned and go with one of them.
thanks again, I really appreciate it :goodvibes

The "premier" golf course, for the avid golfer is the one in Harbourtown, the GOlf Links, I think it's called. But it's also extremely expensive. DH has played a variety of courses at HHI, and his favorite, so far, is the Robert Trent Jones course, just down the street from the Disney HHI resort. He didn't like Indigo Run, but someone else who went loved it. Shipyard was just OK.

Habourtown is the best. Arthur Hills at Palmetto Dunes is also great. Hilton Head National as well as Old South are also very good. If you could find out what their favourite courses are that could be used as a comparison, it would help . We've golfed in Hilton Head for the past 20 years. There are a lot of new courses that are quite nice.

Obviously, Harbourtown GC is always a big draw as it is the HHI stop on the PGA tour. The Robert Trent Jones on Palmetto Dunes which has been mentioned has been recently renovated and features an oceanfront hole. Both courses at Palmetto Hall have undergone recent renovations also (Arthur Hills and Cupp).

Here's a good link for you with course descriptions:

wow!! A lot of choices! I have looked into a couple, and will look into the others as well. Thanks everyone!

other than Harbourtown, which my hubby says is the ultimate in golf on HHI, he says the Robert Trent Jones course over in Palmetto Dunes is one of the nicest courses he's golfed while in HH and he has done quite a few of them over the years. The further off-island you go, the less money they are. But if money isn't an option, i'd go for harbourtown, i think it's close to $300 during summer, maybe less in the off season.
