Hilton Head Frustration

Really, I'd just like to stay there once! I have tried for the past 3 years to get a studio over the summer just to check it out. I really think we'd love it and we have talked about buying HH points so we could go every summer but we'd be crazy to buy in sight unseen. I know it's early and there is a small chance that my waitlist may come through but it never did in the past 2 years.

We love our DVC and spend 2 weeks in Orlando every year but we'd like to try the beach. We even enjoyed Vero Beach but not enough to buy in and since we drive a long way, Hilton Head is just that much closer.

HHI is tough in the summer. We stayed last Memorial Day weekend, booked at 7 months and we went 13 nights over Christmas also which is pretty open.

It is a very small resort and there are not many studios.

The cash rates are pretty decent with the Member cash discount. You could try it out on cash if you are really interested in buying.

We loved it there, but will probably just go doing the less busy times.

Pixie dust for your waitlist:wizard:

There are only 21 Studios at the resort and even the waitlist may be a tough order for some dates. I'd agree with LIFERBABE, why not see about a weekend cash reservation with the member discount and see if you want to do an add-on at HH so you can reserve weekdays using points.

Good luck! :)

Can you only travel in summer? We were easily able to book a September week-the resort was not full at that time. The weather is still warm and there are no crowds-another plus! :)

We booked inAug using cash and the DVC discount- I know you probably do not want to pay but just in case. We got a really good deal too imo but we were out of points so this worked.

I would assume it is very hard to get in the summer. Sorry pixie dust your waitlist comes through.

I had the same problem the last couple of years. I was on the waiting list for several different weeks during the summer, but none of them ever came through. However, what I learned is that if you are on the waiting list your name comes off 7 days prior to your specified start date. There is no waiting list for those 7 days. I have called the week before we wanted to go on vacation and have gotten into Hilton Head both years for the following week. If you have the flexibility to go with only a few days notice, I highly recommend this approach. Good Luck!

That's a great idea! I will definitely try it.

Rent some points from a HHI owner and use the 11 mo window. I am not an HHI owner, lol.

I agree with the folks who pointed out how few studios they actually have Consider going for a 2 bedroom, which most of the units are.

Aside from that, keep your chin up! I was waitlisted for spring break next week and got off the list. Then we decided to try and go, so I called and called and called...for like 2 mos, maybe Then, yesterday, 6 days out, we got lucky and now we're going!

Oh my goodness! We're going to Hilton Head this summer. Woohoo! Thanks to an angel who has been so kind to help us out. I just know it's going to become one of our favorites so adding on will be in our future.

:dance3: Just doing my happy dance!

I hear them HH owners are pretty awesome

Be sure to cancel your waitlist so you do not end up with 2 ressies.

Enjoy, you will love it! We stayed 3 nights (on cash) one July on the drive home from WDW to NJ. Ended up adding on when we got home!!

We are also on the HH waitlist. The cash option is somewhat interesting. How does one go about that? Do you call member services? Any idea what the rate would be for a 2BR (after the discount)?

Thanks.

It's about $340 plus tax- we have 2 booked for the first week in August along with a GV on points that we rented. Looking forward to purchasing out own HHI points in the near future! It's a great place!!:lovestruc You just call member services.

YEs it also depends on the season, we are going Aug 22 and that is the begininning of a lower season so for a studi we are paying like $89/night....so I say give em a call (ms that is).
