Thinking about going to HHI for the 4th next year. Can anyone tell me any special things that go on during the 4th, both at the Disney Resort and other places on the island (ie Shelter Cove, Sea Pines)?

Thanks!

This year the 4th was on Monday & they moved the usual Tuesday Star Spangled BBQ to that night. There were also fireworks that evening following a party (DJ & games) at the resort pool. It was fun, but the BBQ isn't all that. They also had a flag raising ceremony in the AM.

One extra bonus is that fireworks were still held on Tuesday, too!

Aloha!

Our overwhelming impression from 2004 was CROWDED!!

Don't want to be too negative, but we had gone to escape Jersey Shore crowds..Resort DVC/HH was great but restaurants and shops and fireworks AND ROADS off-property were MOBBED all weekend. We knew we were in trouble when we saw signs posted for shuttle busses everywhere to GET TO the fireworks!

Our mistake..should have researched more..we just assumed :sad2: things would be calmer than here at home. WRONG!

This may not matter to many folks, but we had hoped for a more laid-back experience. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I may try for the week after the 4th. We went last time in mid-June with no crowds, no waits for restaurants, etc.

The whole month of July is nearly full capacity for the island, so waiting a week wouldn't make much of a difference. It helps to approach it like WDW--do things earlier than the rest of the crowd! Get to the beach early, go out to dinner by 6, etc., and you'll be fine.

Sea Pines has a nice fireworks display over the water by the 18th green at Harbour Town, but it's crowded getting there and getting out. However, if you stay at DVC, there is also a great fireworks display at Shelter Cove, which puts you at easy walking distance. So, go for it and enjoy....

Thank you! We actually booked the week of the 4th at Sea Pines (staying at Turtle Lane Club). Do you know anything about it? It's next to the Marriott Monarch and Sea Pines Beach Club. We love to bike, so I figure maybe we'll bike over to Harbour Town for the fireworks? Also, any good restaurant suggestions? With kids, we generally go to eat by 5:30pm at the latest, and then go biking or get ice cream. I'm really excited about going back to HHI. We had a fabulous time last summer.

Thanks for the help, everyone!

Hi!
I'll have to check out Turtle Lane Club, but your location sounds great. The worst thing over the 4th is beach parking at the Beach Club, but you'll have an advantage in being able to walk there.

We love the fireworks over the sound; just bring a couple of towels and sit on the 18th green. It will be dark when you bike home, so plan for flashlights. Another option is to take the Beach Club trolley from Harbour Town, but I bet it would be faster to bike home.

Since you like to eat early with the kids, make sure you check out the Early Bird dining specials in the HHI Menu Guide. You'll save lots of money and can hit some great restaurants in the process. In addition to the several good restuarants in Harbour Town itself, one of my favs is Truffles at Plantation Center.

See you next summer!!! :sunny:
