We were thinking of going to HH for a few days in December just for a small getaway. We have 2 kids, D3 & S4. Is it worth it? Is there anything to do in December??

December can be really iffy for weather. It could be fairly warm and beautiful or cold and rainy. Either way, too cold for the beach. There's shopping at the outlets. Two small movie theaters and some good restaurants...but really not much else to do on our quiet little island. It's a very relaxing time of the year, but there is not much to do.

I dint think there will be a lot for your little ones to do, although it is very pretty. Can they ride bikes?

No they don't ride bikes yet. I think my hubby and I would love the peace and quiet but I was afraid of finding entertainment for the kids.

I have been on the beach several times in Dec/Jan but I agree no ocean. People will be in the pool and hot tub and there are a lot of activities at the resort. Dolphin watching and day trips to Savannah and Charleston would be nice. Definitely not the best time of year for small children but still might be worthwhile.

Well, in my opinion it's always worth it to make a trip to HHI. We go for Thanksgiving every year. At Thanksgiving we've had freezing, icy weather some years, and had weather in the 80s some years. Every afternoon there are warm cookies and apple cider in Big Murgie's Den, and there are Xmas carols. All the activities are scheduled, but you may be the only family on the activity. No lines at restaraunts, little traffic. When I get home I'll post some pictures of how beautiful the resort is decorated for Christmas.

We have a trip planned for this December with three teens. Do they still have lots of activities at the community hall and tours, etc. scheduled during the Holidays?

Also anyone that lives on the Island have a suggestion for a Christmas Eve Worship Service?

How difficult is it to book HHI for the week before Christmas at the 7 month mark? Is it like trying to book in June and July?

No- not like June/July. HH typically has availability during December, January, early February at 7 months. The busy months are June, July, August, late October, Thanksgiving and Spring Break - basically any time schools are out.

2BR villas are often available at 7 months even during these busier times but Studios, 1BRs and GVs go quickly as there are only 21,21,5 respectively for those villa types.

IMO, HH is worth a stay at any time of the year. The resort has a wonderful activities staff with something for everyone and every age throughout the year. Of course, the warm weather months do have a few more options since water activities are available, but even in the colder months guests can enjoy a Dolphin watch tour, biking (HH has over 60 miles of public bike paths that are NOT shared with autos).

Enjoy! :)

My husband and I were there the first week of December and had a wonderful time. The resort was not full so it was very quiet. Most days I had the pool to myself. Weather was upper 60s. We did the marsh walk and a nature tour and were the only ones there. Restaurants were not crowded so that meant no waiting. We rented bikes and enjoyed exploring new areas. Everything was going great until I broke my foot. But since I had all my shopping and decorating done it meant coming home and getting to let everyone wait on me while I kept my foot up. All in all, a good way to spend the holidays!
