We'll be arriving in HH next Saturday, so today I asked them to fax me the activities list for this coming week to get an idea of what's going on. Wow! I can't believe the list!

I do have some questions--several of the activities are marked 'R', for Reservation Required. How far in advance do you need to reserve? Do the activities fill up quickly in October?

There are several 'Meet the Naturalist' times with different topics. It says 'all ages'--I'm wondering if my 8 year old daughter will enjoy this--any feedback?

I'm wondering what the evenings are like temperature wise--do you think we'll need jackets and long pants for the campfires?

And finally....there are activites called 'Catch me if you can', Fishin Pole Playhouse and Pirates of the Calibogue. Any comments?

Any 'must do' activites??

Thanks very much in advance! By getting feedback on this it will really help us to plan our week!!

I am sooo excited!!!!!!

I've never been to HHI in October, but I would think that you wouldn't have to worry too much about getting shut out of any activities. Especially since you already have the schedule and can make your plans ahead of time.

I'd take along sweatshirts for the evenings, but I doubt if you'd need anything warmer for the campfires. It should still be in the 60s at night, and the fire gives off a lot of heat. :)

We didn't do any of the activities that you're asking about. I know that Pirates of the Calibogue was a talk about the pirates that frequented the area, and Catch Me If You Can is a 30 minute juggling class.

Our kids, 6 and 9, absolutely loved Goyataku, where you paint a fish and imprint it on a T-shirt. They painted birdhouses too and liked that. They also did the Kids Night Out (actually Parents Night Out) and had a blast. Renting bikes and touring the resort and over to the beach was a big hit, too.

Off property, we parasailed, went shark fishing, took a dolphin cruise and kayaked. All except the kayak trip were major hits with the kids.

The resort has a new naturalist, Christopher, who has been getting rave reviews for his programs. If your daughter is at all "into" those types of things, I'm sure she will enjoy them. I think most of the naturalist programs require that an adult accompany a young child for the program.

You should be fine in reserving your activities once you arrive there next Saturday, unless there is something you absolutely "have" to do that's on the schedule for that day. The activity schedule for the week you'll actually be there probably won't be available till sometime on Friday.

As far as the weather goes, I ususally start checking weather.com a few days before I leave for the 10-day forecast. (use ZIP code 29926) I would highly recommend throwing in a pair of jeans and sweatshirt or jacket for each person -- not only for possible lower temperatures, but as protection from insect bites in the evenings.

When you return, please be sure to tell us all about it!

Thank you both! This information is really helpful. I never thought of using the zip code at weather.com, but that's a great idea!

We're arriving Saturday, so I'll call them Thursday and get the activities list faxed for the following week. Even though it sounds like the activities probably won't fill up-- I think we'll sign up for the one's we're interested in quickly to help us plan our week.

I'll be sure to post a report here when we return.

PS. Is there a best time of day to take the dolphin tour?

After living in an area endemic to West Nile Virus this past summer, we have become mosquito conscious-- this is our first trip to HH I'm wondering--are there lots of mosquitoes?

Also, is HH a West Nile endemic area--just wondering if anyone knows...

At HH you are between two of the nicest American cities I have ever visited in my 30years holidaying in America.
Savanna and Charlestown
