Hilton at Downtown Disney

Okay so I'm going to book a room at the Hilton at Downtown Disney and I'm ashamed to say -- that even though I have been on 12 trips to disney within the last year I was not aware there is some sort of fireworks show at Downtown Disney ?

If this is true -- is it worth paying for the view at the Hilton ? what time is the fireworks show ?

There are no more fireworks at DTD. The Hilton though is very nice and clean. Stayed there 9/06 for one night.

Thanks that makes the decision alot easier.... darn sales person was trying to talk me into a room facing downtown disney so i could watch the fireworks...lol

Stayed there in fall. Our room faced DTD and we could watch the fireworks at MK - far away but it was enjoyable. Now if the price were different don't know that I would bother other than you at least know you aren't looking at the highway.

My decision is the following:

I can stay in a "tower room" which is larger and has upgrades

or

Stay in a room with the view of downtown disney -- which is a regular guest room but you pay extra to look at downtown disney

-- I just really wanted a room with a balcony but no one can even gurantee me that at the hilton.

I'd take the Tower room in a heartbeat.

We stayed there in 2005. And I was about to fall asleep and saw fireworks out side the window but I dont know where they came from.

This off DIS "Breath-taking views are available from many of the rooms. Those that face Downtown Disney will enjoy the nightly fireworks display from Pleasure Island. In addition to the Standard rooms, Tower rooms are found on the 9th and 10th floors. The Tower rooms offers concierge service with a separate registration area and lounge that serves a continental breakfast, snacks throughout the day, evening tea and cordials. Guestrooms on this level will have bathrobes for guests to use during their stay."

I do not recall seeing any balconies. But now I know I stayed in a Tower Room we were on the 9th Floor. But they called the Executive level when we were there.

Breakfast offering was great for us, bagel, fruit, muffin, pastry, coffee, juices...think there was some salmon stuff etc but we didn't eat it. May have been cereal, don't quite remember. Snacks in day were whole fruit, cookies, pretzels, nuts, soda etc. We never made it for the evening appetizers etc. Saved us time and money. Did not use the concierge we were only there for our arrival and departing nights around a Disney package. I've seen nicer conceirge lounges but it was fine.

Are you a Hilton Honors member? If you aren't be sure to sign up ahead of time (it's free - www.hiltonhonors.com). You generally get extra perks.

If it were me, I'd go for the Tower room (the free breakfasts and snacks will be a plus), and then call a few days ahead of time to confirm my reservation, be sure that it was noted on there that I was a Hilton Honors member, and request a room that would let me see the fireworks from MK. They'll probably put your request into the system, and if it's available when you check in, you'll probably get it.

Does DTD Hilton have their own transportation to the parks?

Yes they do, and I believe they participate in Extra Magic Hours

Think the info quoted about fireworks at PI relates to when (not sure they still do ??) they supposedly celebrated New Year every night at midnight. This involved a few fireworks going off - nothinglike as spectacular as the MK fireworks you can also see.

I've stayed there twice and I've been happy both times. The last time I stayed in a room that was facing MK and I could see the fireworks quite well. Also, there are buses that run every 15 minutes that are "Disney Sanctioned". You can get the benefit of "extra hours" by staying at the Hilton. You can also walk over to SS and grab one of the regular Disney buses. It's about a 10 minute walk. I would definitely stay there again.

Stayed at the Hilton last Christmas. Overall it's a good hotel, much better than any of
Disney moderate hotels. Hilton does have magic hrs. but does not participate in
DDP. With pleasure island closing I don't think there will be any fireworks display.
Also, no balconies.

We really want to go back to the Polynesian but the Hilton will be about half of what the Poly costs. We will only be there for 2 1/2 days after the cruise. I know we have to factor in transfers to MCO too.
