Traveling in 3 weeks with DW & our 8 y/o son. Need opinions on the following:

- Jedi Training.
- Suburban Legends.
- Aladdin & Jasmine's StoryTale Adventures.
- Billy Hill & the Hillbillies.

Thanks.

- Jedi Training.

Yes, MUST do. Try to get to the first showing on a weekday. Have your son wear something "Star Wars" or bright and obvious. You have to stand out to get picked.

- Suburban Legends.

????

- Aladdin & Jasmine's StoryTale Adventures.

Cute show, but if your son is "too cool" he may think it's for little kids. I personally LOVE it and I'm pushing 40. It only shows certain days, so check the daily "Times Schedule" to see when it is showing.

- Billy Hill & the Hillbillies.

MUST SEE! Get there about 30 minutes early to get a table up front and if you can, go on a Sat, Sun or Monday to see Kirk Wall. He's the BEST Billy.

You've listed things we didn't do on our first trip last fall. :rotfl:

Jedi Academy didn't exist then, but I hear it's awesome! I know my DS6 would LOVE it, so I bet your DS8 would, too.

We missed the Billy Hill show while the Golden Horseshoe was closed for refurb, and I've heard great things about that as well. I'm not sure how entertaining it is for kids, but I'd love to see it. Maybe someone else can say what their kids thought of it?

I know you asked about the Aladdin storytime (in Adventureland at DL), but the Aladdin musical (in DCA) is described as Broadway-quality and a must-see! It also was closed while we were there (they were re-casting the roles.) I love musicals, and both my boys love the Aladdin movie, so I was seriously bummed to miss it. Do see it if you get the chance!

Great info on the Hillbillies...wouldn't have known this.

Son is probably "too cool" for Aladdin....(but in a couple of years he'll probably be a big fan Jasmine like his Dad :lmao: )

I'll look up Suburban Legends and post back.

Jedi - Thanks for the tips (early and dressed up). Let's face it... Star Wars Rocks. Heck in 20 years, HIS son will be fighting Darth with a Light Sabre.:darth:

We did the Billy Hill show for the first time on our last trip.

We loved it. However, I must say, my kiddos (9 and 4) weren't very interested in it.

Suburban Legends is a local rock/ska/garage band. Not sure if your 8 year old would be interested - I figure they would appeal to teens and twenty-somethings. (Hound109 - How did they show up on your radar?)

Kirk is doing Billy Hill & the Hillbillies Saturday-Wednesday. I agree, he is the best.

My DS is also 8 and in the middle of the "cool" range as judged by mom. He really enjoys live performances of all sorts - small concerts (like at community events), big stage musicals, the symphony, comedy & magic shows.

Jedi show - saw part of it, but not interested enough to get there early to try and get picked to participate. Usually he loves the spotlight and has been on stage at other amusement park shows so I was surprised.

Aladdin storytime - thought it was great for his 4 year old sister, but not for him. He watched it, but I could tell he would have preferred to be elsewhere. Does LOVE the musical in DCA, especially the comedy portions.

Hillbillies - saw that last month. He absolutely loved it - got all the jokes and just about fell off his chair laughing. He was impressed with the live music too.

DH and I also thought Hillbillies was hilarious. I would try to catch that show if you can. Go early, get a good table and buy lunch or a sundae at the counter. I did find the service in there VERY slow, but I was only there once. Maybe it was an off day. We also are all impressed with the Aladdin musical in DCA. I would put that on my must-see list.

Have a fun trip!

Billy Hill has three groups which perform on different days - you can find which ones by searching with Google. We went on a day with supposedly one of the better BH groups.

Everyone raves about BH but we were not that impressed. It was OK, but as good as we were expecting. We love music, and love their style of music with the fiddle, etc. So our disinterest was not due to dislike of their style. We are skipping them next time.

We have seen Aladdin and Jasmine story's in the past when kids were much younger, and it is a fun thing to do if you have time and especially if you have younger kids. If everyone is older (i.e., teens) then I would skip it.

My kids (10 year old dd and 12 year old ds) have been loving Bill Hill since they were 8 and 10. My son in particular loves this one. We usually see it a couple of times during our visit. The Aladdin and Jasmine thing is best for girls or younger kids. Now the Aladdin show over at DCA is another story and should not be missed.

I haven't seen the other two shows (yet).

Just another Jedi training tip. We're headed to DL next month, and I've been trying to figure out the whole "bright, Star Wars shirt" thing for my 6 year old potential Jedi. I looked online, thought about getting one made, but I just didn't like the cost. Yesterday at Toys R Us I found a PERFECT one - Bright Orange with a Lego Star Wars scene on the front - AND it was only $8.99! When I got to the register they told me that all of the licensed clothing was an extra 30% off. Worth the trip!!

jlmarr, when i hit the Disneyland Website Calender (for the 3 days we are there (6/3 - 6/5)), Legends were listed (along with the others).

rock/ska/garage band sounds interesting....i'll listen to my "English Beat" & " ? & the Mysterians" albums in preparation for the Suburban Legends. :hippie:

& to everyone else, thanks for the information. My family resembles "Earl's" extended family (from the TV show)....so we'll grabs some ribs and get a good seat for the Hillbillies. :thumbsup2

My DS did the Jedi Training last week when we were at DL. I read on another board that holding a sign really works so we tried it and it worked perfectly! He was chosen really early (and on his first try) .There were only 2 kids with signs and both got chosen, so I would really recommend this in addtion to the bright clothing. The Jedi Master who chooses the kids is in the center of the stage and calls out who he is choosing, so you want to have something that stands out that he can refer to, i.e. "the orange shirt" or "the person in the red shirt with the sign". You can write something like "I am strong with the force" or "Please pick me", etc. Good luck!....I hope it works for you! :yay:

Thanks for the Jedi Training tips. We are going in October and I told my boys they get to be Jedi Knights before I knew what the training academy really was - lesson learned for dad. They were REALLY excited so now I am looking for all the tips I can get so they don't remember this as the trip that dad lied to us. We will be there 5 days so I like our chances, but I hope they don't have to wear their Stars Wars shirts for all 5 days - Mom won't like that at all.

My DS just wore a regular shirt, but the sign really did the trick! And, if the kids are excited and jumping up and down, they will also get noticed more.:)

Thanks for all the Jedi Warrior tips, guys. :thumbsup2

Ol' Darth doesn't stand a chance. :darth:
