Hillary turns fire on media

PORTLAND, Ore. – Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is increasingly aiming its punches not at her front-running opponent Barack Obama, but at the media.

On the campaign trail, in a new ad and in her meetings with donors and superdelegates, she blasts the D.C. punditocracy for counting her out and urges anyone who’ll listen to ignore the hardening storyline that places Obama as the Democratic presidential nominee.

The goal is twofold. Clinton, a New York senator, wants to stanch the flow of uncommitted superdelegates to Obama, an Illinois senator, by convincing them she can still win the nomination. She also wants to generate a protest vote in the four states that have yet to hold primaries, as well as in Puerto Rico.

The Clinton camp believes a media backlash drove up turnout among her supporters in West Virginia, which last week delivered a landslide 67 percent to 26 percent victory for her. .......

Thanks for that last part. ;) I guess I understand what you're saying...it's just that I keep hearing that statement, and I honestly didn't see it. That's particularly true during the hour after hour after hour that they were rerunning the same Wright videos (which Faux still uses). I just don't see the bias.
I, for one, have seen a relentless bias against Hillary in liberal talk radio and online magazines such as the Huffington Post or the Daily Kos. I cannot think of a single talk show host on Air America, the Jones Radio Network or Nova M Radio who supports Clinton and most of them are vehemently and rabidly against her. I do not listen, read or watch "mainstream" news media outlets such as my local news, CNN or my newspaper (except for the local on-line content) so I can not address those types of media.

ETA: I do read CNN online for non-political news.

People like Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller, and Randi Rhodes did start out disliking Hillary Clinton. The dislike started when she started with the "kitchen sink".

Ed Schultz spent countless shows pointing out how Hillary was a centrist and how could definitely win.

Hillary came by her bad press through her own actions. To say it was there from the beginning is just not so.

Hillarys Mole Hills were made into Mountains......Obamas mountains made into mole hills.....FACT!

Let’s see… I’m trying to understand this whole “kitchen sink” thing..

We have the Texas debate: after Obama plagiarized whole passages of a speech from Massachussetts Gov. Deval Patrick; Hillary called him on it.
Now, we all know that Obama can’t think on his feet and does need things written for him in order to sound credulous but he really shouldn’t be plagiarizing… I mean, I learned that back in 7th grade.

Then there’s the famous “Shame on you, Barack Obama” speech in which she accused Obama of running a hypocritical campaign (which as far as I can tell, he is) because he swore that he would not do any negative campaigning and that he is a different type of politician, ect… and then he mails out false campaign mailers misleading the people of Ohio about her stance on her healthcare plan and NAFTA- two huge issues for that state.

Luckily for Obama, the media took that stance that she was being overly dramatic instead of questioning why Obama sent out false mailers when he was promising America that he didn’t do that type of thing. Oh, and then kudos to Obama – the Republicans (Drudge Report) drug up a published photo off of a website showing Obama in cultural garb, made a big to-do about it and the Obama campaign staff started crying ‘foul’ … but instead of crying foul to who it needed to be directed to – they cried foul to Hillary who wasn’t the one that drug up the photo but got the blame for it nonetheless. So, all focus was taken off Hillary tying to point out that Obama is being a hypocrite and sending false negative mailers out in Ohio..... and instead the focus is on how Hillary is now an evil fear mongering monster.

Oh! And let’s not forget that he sent an aide to Canada to tell the Canadian Prime Minister to disregard everything he was saying was his stance on NAFTA – it’s just all political rhetoric and that Canada has nothing to worry about. :thumbsup2

I think that’s when the whole ‘kitchen sink’ came into usage for this primary election. But seriously, why the HS is getting so upset is because while she has given the media ammunition to dislike her negative campaigning – so has he. The difference is – she’s called on it by the media and he’s usually not. If he is, it’s not that big of a deal. The Rev Wright thing was the biggest deal but that’s already been let go by the mainstream media. (And like most people, I agree that if a “Rev Wright” person was in Hillary’s past this would not have been let go)

I mean, geeze, Obama is already past the Rev Wright debacle.. one of his latest campaign mailers for Kentucky shows him behind a church pulpit with a cross in the background and speaking about his religion. If I were him, I’d keep religion out of the rest of my campaign… but that’s just me…

You know, it’s funny. I read a post (not on this message board) by one Obama supporter asking why Obama had to defend himself for trying to enlighten the people. (Meaning: why he had to defend himself on his negative attacks against Hillary as he was only “enlightening” the people as to what her stance/opinion on subject/issue really is.) Well, I guess that same could be said about Hillary – she's not being "negative"; she's only "enlightening" people about Obama.

She points out that he’s really just another politician running for office complete with him telling the people what they want to hear vs what he’s actually done before (ie: the gun issue – what was it? He was supporting the use of firearms in his speeches to states that are pro-gun but he voted against something in the senate… or do I have that backwards?) and he does negative ad campaigning – which he promised he wouldn’t.

You know, all politicians lie – all three of them still in this election: McCain, Clinton, and Obama. But of the three there is only one of them standing up there pretending to be above all of that and at the exact same time he’s pulling the exact same crap as the other two.
(That person would be Obama.)

Obama’s given back just as good as he cries Hillary has given it to him but over and over the media and the Obama supporters just point out her negativity in this campaign and gloss over anything negative he says and does against her. After all, he’s just trying to “enlighten” people.

I think it’s time to drop the “kitchen sink” crap. Obama’s halo is long gone from the top of his head. He’d be a hypocrite if he keeps accusing Hillary of throwing the kitchen sink at him while he runs a clean campaign – oh wait. He already does that. If he didn’t want Hillary “throwing the kitchen sink” at him, then he should have been running a true clean campaign. She can only point out and go forward with what he gives her – as he is able to do with her.

I’m still not voting for him… just in case anyone wondered.

Even the kitchen sink metaphor is sexist. And when exactly was it thrown? When the media told us it was? Pundits at MSNBC told us she would throw it the minute she entered the race. They told us to watch for it, expect it, that Hillary couldn't be trusted to run a clean campaign. We were warned by media to wait, wait, wait for the kitchen sink. The media, especially the liberal media has piled on Hillary so high it's amazing she's gotten as far as she has. Months ago they were practically sobbing for her to quit. It's pathetic. The story line against Hillary was written before this campaign began.

And you are not alone. Hillary may not get his nomination, but Obama will certainly not get my vote. Based on exit polls recently, he won't get a lot of Hillary supporters' votes. :rolleyes1

Oh, come on! This metaphor was coined BY HER OWN STAFF: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/26/us/politics/26clinton.html

So were they being sexist?

The Lionel show in the mornings is very pro-Hillary. At least, he seems to be from my point of view.

And Hillary has done the same exact thing...or did you miss this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RernchYH-Ec

His fliers said she'd campaigned for NAFTA. Guess what? http://thinkonthesethings.wordpress.com/2008/02/25/tdbquotes-of-hillary-clinton-praising-nafta/

Luckily for Obama, the media took that stance that she was being overly dramatic instead of questioning why Obama sent out false mailers when he was promising America that he didn’t do that type of thing. Drudge also reported that the photo was delivered to him from a Hillary campaign staffer. Was that true? I don't know. You'd have to ask Matt Drudge.

Oh! And let’s not forget that he sent an aide to Canada to tell the Canadian Prime Minister to disregard everything he was saying was his stance on NAFTA – it’s just all political rhetoric and that Canada has nothing to worry about. :thumbsup2

That is a flat out falsehood. It simply did not happen. Period.

Obama barely mentions her in his stump speeches. Meanwhile, he's just about all she talks about. I'm sorry, but it's easy to make that case when she's playing into it. I assure you, for every site I've seen here talking about how "unfair" the media has been to Hillary, I can point to four or five that discuss her negative campaign tactics in comparison to his.

Personally, I wish they'd leave religion where it belongs: out of the conversation. Unfortunately, Obama still must battle the ignorant notion that he is a muslim (as if it would be a terrible thing if he were). Hence the fliers you're talking about.

I don't think he's trying to "enlighten" anybody about Hillary at all. One person's opinion on some other website doesn't make for a campaign strategy.

I’m still not voting for him… just in case anyone wondered.

I'm sure the conservatives in this country are ecstatic to hear it. :thumbsup2

Um...no, that's not a fact. It's an opinion.

I find it very disheartening that I find it easier to listen to what McCain has to say than Obama:confused3 I was listening to Obama talk today ...where ever he was and he made no sense...he was just talking to talk....he was beeing asked questions and he could not answer them well at all.

Than later I watched him and he was giving a speech and he was talking again about how we need to change old politics....okay been there done that...old news we get that....I want to here him tell us about how how how........I cant listen to him because it is all the same redrick(sp) I want him to try and try hard to get my vote.

He sode not have it....he needs to SHOW ME THE CHANGE...At this point I will be writing in Hillary....or DISUNC:lmao:

I want him to WOW me...so where is the WOW:woohoo:

And you are not alone. Hillary may not get his nomination, but Obama will certainly not get my vote. Based on exit polls recently, he won't get a lot of Hillary supporters' votes. :rolleyes1

And there are plenty of Obama supporters that won't vote her.:confused3

I voted for Clinton twice here in NY and I voted for Edwards when I lived in NC.

I would have happily voted for Clinton, Edwards or Obama, but not now.

I will never vote for Mrs.Clinton again.

Well since you won't vote for Clinton and I won't vote for Obama, I guess we had all better start getting used to President McCain.

looks like you will wipe out Mr.Obamas vote and she will wipe out Mrs. Clinton's vote...so neither of your votes would count than anyway. So you can just call it even....

What is up with the "Mrs. Clinton"...first time I have ever seen that or heard anyone refer to her as that ..is that because you dont like her???:confused3 or have you always referred to her that way?

Ed Schultz (who I STILL think is Rush Limbaugh, when I hear him on the radio) went against Hillary, since she would not appear on his show. He does have a history of bad mouthing anyone who dont come on his show.

Hillarys Mole Hills were made into Mountains......Obamas mountains made into mole hills.....FACT

ITA with EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

There are lies and then there are LIES!
Obamas are a direct cause to decieve. Remember the very last Debate when he said he 'Disowned' the Rev, and Stefanopolis called him on it.
Again his excuse was "thats not what I meant"!:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

The whole recent "cant talk bad about Michelle" but he can knock Bill is sooooooooooooooo reeeeeeeediculous.

This just makes me believe the whole "What Obama says...and what Obama does, are two vastly different things" theory so much more!

Typical yuppie! He tells everyone what is wrong (like we dont already know) and says he can fix it. But How?????:confused3 The only thing I ever heard him say is that he is going to bring 'unity" to America. We were all United until he came along. Look what he has done to the Democrat party. He is soley to blame for the division, not Hillary.

I've been in the biz world for 30 years now...I seen his type come & go way too many times.

So like many aspects of his campaign, He is the fireman who sets the fire, then when he puts it out he wants his "hero" pin!
There has got to be a phsycologial term for this? Whatever it is...HE is that word.

:

I very much agree with this part, especially the bolded part.

Everyone blame Hillary for the division in the party, but she isn't the division, Obama is the cause for the division. Obama is not greatest thing since slice bread.

Wasn't it Obama that said he would not run for President as a first term Senator? Maybe I heard wrong but I thought I heard him say that some where down the line :confused3 I am sure if I am wrong I will be corrected ;)

I agree with the poster that said it is easier to listen to McCain than Obama. Obama's "speeches" drive me crazy --- after he says "THANK YOU" about 50 million times, all he talks about is hope and change :headache: and same thing over and over again.

I actually caught a little bit of McCain on one of the news channels and though I don't fully agree with him, he was SO much easier to listen to then one of Obama's fluff speeches.
