Hello! Has anyone done this tour? If so, may I ask a few questions...

1. Did you book through Disney? If so, were you able to hike at your own pace? Specifically, if you were faster than the group, were you able to go ahead and meet the group up top? My gut says no as I'm sure it's a liability thing?? OR do they have a few guides so different pacing of hikers can be accommodated?

2. If you didn't book through Disney, who did you book through? I found a few companies yet I am concerned with the time factor using a company other than Disney.

3. Did it really take 2 hours to hike up? and ... Is it 6k round trip or 6k one way?

THANK YOU and Cheers!

I did this this hike last year on the Norway cruise with my husband and daughters aged 11 and 13.

1. We did this tour independently for 2 reasons - as DD was under 12 we were not able to book through Disney and also cost. For four of us we saved $$$ by booking ourselves. We did see the Disney group on the way up the walk as we were going down. They were pretty strung out so I think you would be able to go at your own pace.

2. We went with Tidereiser. Didn't book before hand, just researched timetables on their website. As I thought we would be tight for time we were off the ship sharpish and pretty much ran to the dock to get the first ferry. We bought a combined ferry and bus ticket from a rep at the pier. There are also reps from Boreal there but their buses are not as frequent. Had short ferry ride and bus was waiting to take us to the Pulpit Rock. Disney will have their own coach but will be on the same ( or in our case later) ferry - it's the only way there. Would have no hesitation doing it this way again. In the end we were back much earlier than anticipated and even managed lunch in Cabanas! Know which is the last available ferry if you do it this way and have a local taxi number just in case.

3. Beforehand I read it would take about 5 hours up and down. It's 3800m each way with a difference in elevation of 334m. It took us around 3 hours with about 20 mins at the top. It was too windy to linger for longer. We are all pretty fit and usually hike at weekends and spend summer hiking in the Austrian Alps so we were probably going at quite a pace. The trail is very steep at the start then as far as I can remember there was only one other steep section but it is all relative to your hiking experience . It is narrow in parts and that can slow you down as you let people pass. It is rocky and was very slippery when we were there. I would advise hiking books, not trainers or converse. I could see how accidents happen in the wet.

We also hiked in Alesund and Geiranger. Let me know if you want details.

How close to the edge did you get? I have anxiety issues looking that the photos. :)

Husband and DD (13) lay flat and peeked heads out over the edge. I stood way back with DD (11). I was afraid we would get blown over the edge! A few brave souls were sitting on edge for photos but I couldn't bring myself to do that. It's a long way down.
