Highly recommend Turner Drugs

Recently when we were in Disney my toddler son ended up developing a heat rash on his private area and it was pretty bad. My pediatrician recommended we bathe him in baking soda 3 times a day to get it healed up and so the dilemma began of where to get baking soda. I talked to the front desk and their manager. I also talked to the gift shop manager. He was able to get me enough for 2 baths from the chef but no one seemed to have any suggestions except go by taxi and buy some at Walmart. Finally, after talking to First Aid and a Baby Care Center employee the next morning, they recommended that I call Turner Drugs (http://turnerdrug.com/) because they deliver to resorts. This drug store had also been recommended late the night before by a fellow Disser, but I didn't think they had anything I could use because it wasn't listed on their website.

Well I called and she said they usually stock baking soda and Aveeno with baking soda but were out of both. She did however have Aveeno oatmeal bath which I ordered. Then she extended some pixie dust my way without me even asking! Kind of funny since Disney was very little help. She said that she would also have her driver pick up some baking soda on his way to deliver and just add it to my bill. I can't tell you what a relief it was and the prices were fair. Everything arrived at the front desk 2.5 hours later and she even had her driver pick up a 4lb box of baking soda and not some dinky little box of it because she knew it was for baths.

So if anyone on here ever needs anything, I would recommend them in a heartbeat! They were fast, friendly, helpful, and fair!

Yes we had to use Turner Drugs as well one time and I love the fact that they deliver to the resorts Big bonus there for me!!

I used them once. They were very prompt. My problem was I have Blue Cross Alabama and Turner did not accept that. I had to pay cash and file when I got home. I then had a problem because Blue Cross only pays their negotiated price and Turner was much much higher.

I'm glad you finally got your son what he needed, but I don't think it's fair to say that "Disney was very little help". A gift shop manager searched for and provided you with baking soda (likely for free) for those first couple of baths, and the people at the Baby Center / First Aid were the ones who told you about Turner Drugs in the first place (since you weren't even going to consider them based on what you'd seen on their website).

No ... Disney didn't send someone back to a kitchen somewhere to give you a free box of baking soda, but they helped as much as they could within the limits of what they can do from a food safety standpoint. And I think the gift shop manager went way out of her way to help you, since baking soda isn't something they normally have lying around in the gift shops.

How much was the total bill from Turner? Just wondering if it was that much easier / less expensive than it would have been to just take that cab to Wal-Mart the first day and not have to waste the rest of that time searching.

I'm glad to see it all worked out, we were worried about you when you never came back to your original post. I used turners once for OTC for my DS, great service and quick. Not over priced, don't remember exactly what I paid, but I don't remember it being a concern.

We also had a need for Turner Drugs while at Disney. It was an adjustment paying their regular prices since we are also on BC/BS of Al.

This is what I love about the dis! I am going to be in WDW in a few months with a 5 year old and a 10 month old, before I leave for my trip I will definitely program the phone number to Turner Drugs into my cell so if I have a need for anything I can easily call and get it. Looking at their 7 dollar delivery fee I think that would be much cheaper than a taxi since we won't have a car with us. Thanks so much for posting!!

I got strep a few years ago and they delivered to me as well. I agree, they were totally awesome and the prices were very reasonable. I'm glad they helped you too :)

We've had to use them twice...one OTC and one prescription. BCBS of CT did reimburse us the full script amount. Both times Turner Drug was fantastic and delivered in less than 2 hours. Highly recommend.

That's good to know. :thumbsup2 Knowing that the cost is reasonable and the delivery is quick is great info to have.

If I'd have been in the OP's shoes, I'd still have probably done the "taxi to the drug store / walmart / wherever" on day one than to spend time running around trying to find some other option. (Not to mention worrying about my son being uncomfortable.) But for us, it's usually more about the time being spent rather than the actual dollar cost, KWIM? We spent a lot of money to be at WDW ... I'd rather not spend half a day of park time trying to scare up something when a quick and easy (albiet perhaps pricier) alternative exists!

The bill was $20 total but I bought Aveeno too which is around $8. So yep it was cheaper than around $40 to take a taxi.

As for Disney, the front desk manager who never actually came and talked to me (even though she was within spitting distance) but instead relayed the info to her employee should have recommended them first. She was the first point of contact following her cusomer sevice rep and should have spoken to me directly rather than standing behind the desk and staring at me from afar. I am also 18 weeks pregnant and it was around 9 or 10pm when this all happened, and they suggested this late night taxi ride as the only option. They pride themselves on customer service and they should go above and beyond to provide options to a very upset mother of a sick baby. I am not asking for anything free but I just needed to know what resource was out there. The baby center knew all about Turner Drugs and had a notebook full of resources, and Disney is full aware of their services and have recommended them to others. I asked the front desk multiple times if there was somewhere that provided a delivery service for these kind of things and the answer was take a taxi. You know what? We shouldn't have to take a taxi especially when Disney wants you to stay in their resorts and exclusively use their transportation for convenience. There are options available and this could have all been solved when I spoke to the first person instead of the fifth person I talked to. It's about educating their employees and themselves. I am sure I am not the first person who has ever needed some medical related item while staying at POP.

Of course you're not. But at 9 or 10 at night -- with the assumption that you needed something right away for a sick baby -- WalMart would have been the best option. Half of the answers you got from people on the DIS were to take a cab to WalMart, so clearly it's the go-to response.

I agree that the manager should have been more attentive and less stand-offish. But at 9 or 10pm, I can't think of a single place that will deliver non-emergency items. Even Turner closes at 10 (or 8pm, if it's a Sat or Sun). If you were upset enough for them to believe you needed something that night, the closest 24-hr big box store would have been the most helpful response.

I've used Turner Drugs twice for water delivery. I've recommended them to friends too. I'll be using them again in two weeks!

I didn't even know they deliver water. Thanks! I will remember that for next year.

I guess we can just agree to disagree. I think this is starting to run off on a tangent now. My whole point of posting this was to tell other Dissers that this company exists and that they come highly recommended from my experience with them... not to start a firestorm over whether or not I feel Disney provided appropriate service.

This thread really isn't related to theme parks attractions and strategies, so I've moved it to the Disney World Tips board. :)
